this is probably to be expected any time a player goes to a new team... just interesting to read it. http://www.csnphilly.com/football-p...new-home-in-Philly?blockID=694374&feedID=2229
yeah, mostly just interesting. can't take any of that personally...he's in a new city and while i believe he's probably being mostly truthful, he would have to say all that regardless to cater to a new fanbase and all
Typical cliched answers to the same questions every recently acquired player gets asked by the local media in his new city. Nothing to see here.
Nothing Demeco said is really out of line or wrong, but whoever wrote the article was definitely trying to put down our city, for whatever reason. Just being a jerk, I suppose. I definitely don't agree that Philly has embraced Demeco more than Houston has so far. They haven't seen the guy play a single down for their team yet. Demeco was beloved in this city for being one of only a handful of guys on the team for a looooooonnnng time that was worth a damn. A lot of people were sad to see him go even though they understood the reasons.
He makes a perfect point how there's a mixture of fans, not just all texans. I wish down here was more like Philly in terms of fandom, All Houston, all the time. No cowboys, no steelers, no lakers, no heat.
you would think demeco would recognize cliched questions and what the local media douche was trying to accomplish. demeco could have played it better, instead he got played and gave the exact answers they were looking to hear to write "their" story not his.
The reason for that is because so many people want to/do move here from other cities. It just comes with the package of living in a beautiful city that so many people want to live in. No wonder Philly only has fans of the local teams. Who would want to move to Philadelphia? Also, in before Baqui99 chimes in with his dull anti-Houston shtick.
People don't move to Houston because the city is beautiful. They move here because their salaries are beautiful.
Philadelphia sucks. Lived there for a bit, have no desire to ever do so again. granted, I think most of the negative-ness in there about Houston is true. But I don't live in Houston anymore either! Moreover, the idea that the Eagles long-standing history as a team suddenly makes them this great organization with repeated deep playoff runs flies in the face of reality. They haven't won an NFL title of any kind since 1960 and have the same number of Superbowl wins as the Texans - 0. They did have a good run of solid playoff teams, but have lost their last 3 playoff games and didn't even make it last year, despite being an early season odds on favorite to get to the Superbowl, if not win it all. They've completely overpaid for a unique but slightly above average quarterback. The article focused way to much on Houston vs. Philadelphia - a push, and the Eagles vs. the Texans - a meaningless comparison which, TODAY, probably favors the Texans anyway.
I get that but you act like all those cowboys, steelers and laker fans are transplanted here n Houston. That's just false. I'd say the majority of those fans here have no connection to that city. Keep making excuses all you want, our fandom just isn't up to par with certain cities. People want to contribute winning or lackof to this problem but the texans and rockets haven't won a damn thing in this era but they're the only teams I'll eveer care about. And I'm the only one like this is my circle of friends. They think I'm crazy because I'm so passionate about the local teams.
Ugh, not this tired argument again.... Even the idiots at the chronicle have taken this guy's bait - right on queue. Headline on the front page of the website says "DeMeco says Philly's a better sports town" OH NOOOO!!!!! Queue the faux-outrage, I'm out.
Oddly enough though the article on the chron agrees with everything he said. They just want the clicks that headline will generate.
Exactly. The truth is the truth. Houston is sprawling, we don't have a downtown to match those of Chicago, NY, Philly, Boston. But it's just the general tone of the article. Oh, well, not a big deal, really. But if Demeco ever appears on SR610 as a call-in guest, if I were a host, I'd let him have it. Make him hang up on me if necessary. One thing Demeco WILL learn about his new digs: you don't get the same gentility after you have a bad game or two. They'll jump on him. But I wish him well, wish we didn't have to trade him, but it'll be better all around. Replacing his leadership in the locker room sounds like it'll be a challenge.
Meh, Ryans is from the south... I doubt he's as impressed with Philly as he's putting on. Good luck to him though. It's not like he left via free agency, the Texans did trade him afterall.
