In the draft, Yi had all the tools to be good.

    Is he really that bad?

This will be the zenith of his career. Sad.

He has the talent. Not a lot of 7-footers can move like he does. He's incredibly lazy, though. I don't know if he can even speak English, yet.

I'd be lazy too if I was getting paid $$$ to watch NBA games courtside.

On a serious note, I believe it's a confidence issue with him. Also he just lacks the motivation to polish his game, which hasn't changed abit since he's been the the L.

He's a good 1st or 2nd guy off the bench. Definitely not a bad player.

I think he lacks Bball IQ and general aggressiveness

He's a really polished offensive player actually, I watched him for 1 or 2 games during the FIBA Asia Tourney and he did really well.

he is good, nice shooter and has some decent 7 footer moves in the post, but his hands... terrible hands

He has the tools to be a really good defender IMO but that'll never happen.

Why doesn't he just spend more time learning from Dirk. They have pretty similar games, or at least Yi should model his game after Dirk's.

I think that's exactly the problem. In practice Yi reportedly can hit over 80% of his shots but in actual games that percentage gets cut in half, sometimes more. His release, while similar in form to Dirk's, is incredibly slow in comparison. He also seems very mentally soft, and doesn't know how to adjust the game when the shots aren't falling. In Carlisle's system if you can't hit shots you are out, and it's no wonder the 3 worst FG% shooters on the team (Cardinal, Odom & Yi, strangely, all front-court players) can't get any minutes.

The mental and work ethic aspects, you are spot on.

If you are 7 feet tall, someone will sign you.

It's like being a left handed pitcher, someone will sign you.
