So what does you say about the team’s collapse? Did they either pick a really bad time to revert to who they really are, or a bad time to play below what they showed throughout the season to be their potential?

Personally, I think it's the latter. I don't have any realistic notion that this team would have been battling for the finals but maybe a 2nd round team playoff due to favorable matchups.

If someone wants to add a poll, feel free as I am ignorant to such things.

Here is the reason for the collapse:

Hustle beats talent, but not when talent hustles.

The collapse is consistent with how we played all year. We had losing streaks of 4, 5 and 6 games this season. Generally, good teams don't have that happen.

That is perhaps the most salient observation made on this board in months, and it brilliantly sums up the state of the NBA - that the regular season is a joke, and that stars win championships.

True but this is preceded by less talent not hustling which is what the Rockets did. Finally McHale admitted in the press conference last night that the effort was much worse during these last 7 games than before.

Holy crap, that's really well said. Absolutely! I've been saying this in more complicated ways for a long time now...but your line is much more succinct.

Epic Collapse. It couldn't have come at a worse time. WTF happened? Its all started with the two home games against Utah and Phoenix? How did it all just turn to **** so sudden?

I just wanted us to go to the playoffs.

Another problem with the Rockets, during this season, was their inability to keep leads. The team just did not know how to finish teams off.

Things evened out for the Rockets. We had a lot of breaks earlier in the season as far as facing teams that were missing players, and also winning way more than our fair share of close games.

We were never better than a bubble team that would have to scratch and claw to get that 8th seed.

Its simple. To say the Rockets were "outhusstling" teams early in the season is fair, but I think this is more basketball related.

The Rockets had glaring basketball weakness on their roster that makes them very easy to defend if the opposing team actually pays attention to the scouting report.

    Weakness in scouting report-

-Only one post scoring option- Double Scola in second half, pack the paint, and force them into being a jump shooting team. This makes their offense stagnent, and forces them to be you by making unassisted 3's. Unassisted is the key word here. Means the shot will not be in rythmn.

-Get out on the break-The Rockets have never been great at getting back on the defensive end. If their shot goes up and the bigs have position on the rebounds, sprint down the floor, and it wont be hard to get an open bucket. Rockets wings have often been trying to help out Scola and Dalembert with defensive rebounds this season and often leads to players leaking out on the break for easy points.

-Pack the paint- the Dragic/Lowry P&R is the secondary option for this team on offense. If you can back the paint, to not all them the space to drive, you again force this team into unassisted 3's.

Thats basically the gameplan against the Rockets and it works. The past few weeks in the season, we have seen teams really play against the Rockets weaknesses. Something teams really didnt pay much attention to early in the season.

Another wy of saying it. "hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard."

Thanks for the kind words. Obviously, we need an infusion of talent. Give lots of pt to good to great upside players such as Morris and Donuts and see if they become great players.

To continue the status quo is lunacy, and I think even Les might realize this by now. I hope.

Before the epic comeback in OKC the season
Was over we were down 10-had lost 5 of 6
But we came back did well for a bit then won four n a row
    THEN....it happened again-we lost 6 n a row
THAT does not happen to GREAt or Good teams

Similar meaning, but I like his line better. It has a clearer message, and the construction of the sentence is less awkward. :)
