I don't know if it's because he's in a contract year, or if he responded to any Morey/McHale speech when they traded for him, but Camby has played with a lot of guts. Dude's obviously in agony but plays the first half as if mobsters had threatened his family if he didn't get at least 10 and 10. Need to re-sign him for 2 years. $5 million per. Flush Sam Dalembert (Indian name: Hands of Stone). Get Asik or make that trade for Gasol where he can roll over to the 5 for much of the game.
Can someone tell me why McHale hasn't been playing him when we're trying to close out games? It's been driving me crazy, watching Patterson hop around late in the 4th, essentially doing nothing of consequence. Sorry. I guess that's off topic. I just don't know why Camby hasn't been out there. Perhaps we would have won a couple of the last 5 games.
As long as Camby doesn't demand crazy money, I say we lock him up. I'm a little concerned about his ability to stay healthy, but he's done a great job of coming in and playing the Mtumbo role...with a little added offense.
2 yrs ~6 mil. is about right. Maybe a team option instead of the 2nd year. But, he's a very good back-up C, and that's a very nice price.
Camby is better no doubt that's just a plus! No reason to get rid of the bear yet though he's not useless...
I would guess a longer deal would actually make more sense for both sides. Camby mainly wants to finish his career here and play 4 more seasons. Rather than loading up a deal over 2 years, spread it out over 4. It would give Camby some peace of mind knowing he's locked up at home and that may be all he needs to not ask for a lot.
So, how much does he get paid? I would say at least the 3mil mini mid level which he would be sure to get from Miami. Most likely full MLE.
