The story is way too long to post. I have included only a clip. You can click on the link for pictures and full text.

Basically, a 5-year old boy fell asleep while sweeping at train with his brother.
He wakes up lost and his brother is missing. He ends up as a homeless beggar until an orphange takes him in. He is adopted by Australians. 25 years later, he uses Google Earth to look for matching landscapes of his old city. He finds his old city, travels their with an old childhold photo and finds his mom. It turns out that his brother was found dead, a month after the boy was lost.

Wow, I'm completely blown away by this. Bittersweet that he found his mom again and his brother passed away. Boy, I feel like tearing up. Probably the most heartwrenching story ever. You finally get to meet your true mom after all the years and find that your brother was never going to find you, because he died...:(

I'm happy for him. God bless him.

Could it be that his mum "lost" him on purpose? I've heard stories of mothers who are extremely poor do that.

    That's a good point.

It is very strange that he made no mention of his father. After 25 years, he would have certainly asked his mom about his father. There would be a lot of stigma for an unwed mother with 2 kids. It would be unlikely that she could marry, since she was extremely poor and was no longer a virgin.

He was working on trains, but fell asleep on one this time. His parents worked at far away construction sites for most of the week just to scrounge up money, so they were only home a couple of days a week. His older brother was going to the train station (his brother was only about 3 years older than him), so Saroo asked to go along with him. I don't think his mom tried to lose him on purpose.

I'm guessing his father died. His father was around when he got lost from everything I've read.
