With the Rox out, it looks like I'm all in for the Grizzlies, just like last year's playoffs. Go Grizz.

It's also the thread title Sam. If it said gay is going to take it to another level, that's fine. It's comparing him to Durant is the sole problem

Rudy has been on a tear lately as he's been carrying the Griz the past 8 or 9 games

    The truth hurts

Is he at least on "no-stats all-star" level? :(

Rudy Gay's per game stats during last 15 game tearing it up stretch:

    37.7 MP 20.1 PTS 6.0 REB 2.1 AST 1.2 STL 0.9 BLK 2.3 TO 45.1% FG 52.8% TS

hmmm, what seems so familiar about those numbers?

Rudy Gay's per game stats last whole career:

    36.2 MP 18.0 PTS 5.7 REB 1.9 AST 1.3 STL 0.9 BLK 2.3 TO 45.6% FG 53.1% TS

    ahhh yes.

rudy is at .115 WS/48 this season.
shane is at .099 WS/48 this season.

it only took 6 seasons and battier turning 33 but that trade has finally been proven a dismal failure. and memphis only has to pay rudy "huge-stats, superstar" money.

Really......."coveted"? Who "covets" Rudy Gay..other than obviously the Gaiety Society here.......Does this covetousness lead to covet points? And does this mean that if you covet Rudy Gay, you will murder him and embark on a multistate pattern of ritual murder, a la Hannibal Lecter surmised that Buffalo Bill would after the murder of Frederika Bimmel in Silence of the Lambs? Because he covets what he sees every day.

so.......if that's true, then Keith Van Horn is also better than any current Rockets player. The truth... hurts?

If only we had Keith Van Horn now, the 8th seed would be locked up.

You're right, the truth hurts! :(

I really could give a poop about the Battier vs Gay thing. I was pissed at getting Battier and NO ONE else. I actually went to watch a summer league game of Rudy Gay after he got drafted.

But its still irony that this will be the first year the Grizzlies have a playoff game without Battier, and will be (or maybe not be) the first time they WIN a playoff game without Battier. Its taken quite a while.

Said it before, thing is rookie STARTERS do NOT win championships. I don't know why that is, but can look it up. Gotta go back 30 years to the Sixers with Marc Iavoroni to find a rookie starter on a title team. And even he was an old rookie who played overseas at first.

Some title teams hardly have even have the rookie Sam Cassell type rotation players (Spurs did have OLD rookie Manu Ginobili off the bench). Really "Win Now" with a veteran was a "historically" correct move. Still, Gay after a season of Van Gundy D then in an Adelman offense probably woulda been nice development.

Yeah, yeah, I mean, let's wait 6 years until the trade and THEN compare Battier and Rudy Gay, when Tmac is a shell of his former self and Yao Ming is retired

When the trade happened I was off my seat and couldn't believe the Rockets were so stupid. Battier was what, 28? He had already peaked, and was basically nothing but a glue guy. Gay oth looked like the 2nd coming of Tmac. When the cam showed Jerry West making champagne toasts with his buddies I was about to lose my mind.

But the next few years showed that while the Rox didn't get max value in that trade, they made the correct trade nonetheless. Rudy is making 15M this year per the ESPN trade machine, and that number will only increase in the coming years as his contract runs all the way to 2016. His production is nice, but at that price? He's definitely not worth it, and I'm pretty sure a team with Gay as the best player won't win a ring anytime soon (he's not even the best player with that kind of salary, he's like 3rd best behind Gasol and Randolph).

Why is this thread still popular? Gay is less worthy than the turd Durant dumped after 4 helpings of the never ending pasta bowl from The Olive Garden.....

He isn't an all star player, and will not be until he draws more fouls.

End of discussion ---> he is a mediocre starter with bloated stats based on heavy usage.

It was a terrible deal then and a terrible deal now. Maybe someone can find the draft thread when we got battier most people were pissed.

This is why every thread that mentions Rudy Gay's name goes viral on this board. I didn't start this with my little thread, it's been going on for 6 years among you guys.

When Rudy Gay is mentioned the who community on this board gets testy, and that means it strikes a nerve.

The bottom line is that the Rockets sacrificed the better player for veteran, right now, help. And now, it stings bad because all ya'll got to show for it was 1 second round playoff appearance. Rudy has 5 to 7 more years of great basketball left in him, while the rockets are hiring 36 year old centers to compete for the 8th seed in the playoffs.

It's harsh, but it is what it is.

Yeah.... you would have a point except you left out the elephant in the room, the contract Gay has.... if he were a free agent right now, the Rockets would not pay him what he is getting...... so you are wrong, again..... but don't let facts get in the way.

If yall had rudy gay last year and let him walk over his contract, this board would have staged a coup. Let's not get ridiculous.

If morey would have let him walk, he'd be vilified in Houston. The grizzlies could trade Rudy right now to any team in the league with the quickness. ANY TEAM!
