For Kevin Martin, right? Seems like a really bad trade IMO. The game last night reminded me how much I really liked Landry...probably one of my all time fav Rockets (behind Hakeem of course.).
I know this board lives by the "What have you done for me lately?" mantra, so my opinion is probably in the minority, but... Kevin Martin has clearly been the better player of the two since that trade.
There was a stat that Landry had while with the Rockets which made him to me soo valuable. He was the 2nd leading 4th Quarter scorer in the League behind Kobe. He was our closer. Say what you will about who is the better player, but Landry won the game last night. And we have desperately missed a closer.
Landry isn't very good, he got benched on the Kings. You don't think he played over his head to get back at his former team?
Landry also averaged 11 points on 27% shooting per 48 minutes during "clutch" situations last year. If you truly believe that Landry is a clutch closer, then he needs to be going to Minnesota, not here.
Sorry, forgot to say that "clutch" here is based on 82games definition. Found here: http://www.82games.com/1011/CSORT11.HTM
Double P is not better and Carl is Hell of stronger and plays with all heart and wears his emotions on his sleeve. He'll even take a bullet for the team! And show up to practice the next day... ON TIME!
No, that was still a good trade. Even with Martin not producing as well as last year, he is still the better player. It seems to me Landry had been in a good situation when he was a Rocket that enabled him to do his best work. But, when his situation changed, his output went down. If he had remained a Rocket, his situation still would have changed, and we would probably not have the Landry of old. It happened to Martin too when McHale took over, but he didn't fall off as much. Either way, Landry isn't the difference between being a contender and a lotto team. We need a bigger fish than Landry or Martin. I'm happy for Landry to have a good game against his old team. (I can be happy about it because I'm so disappointed with the Rockets that I frankly hope they lose the rest of their games. Not because I want to tank, but just to maximize the pain of their failure.)
You knew it was going to be a former rocket to put the nail in the coffin. That is just how it works out.
Sad but true, it seems the more the player enjoyed playing for the rockets the more they want to crush us for trading them...
why should we care about landry? he is not a key piece clutch mentioned in his article. those players are replaceable.
Patterson was projected to be the better player and projected to have more upside. He is a late lottery pick while Landry is a 2nd rounder. So far he hasn't shown that he is better than Carl.
Landry's ceiling was low. Martin, when healthy, was a proven high-efficiency scorer, something we desperately needed. Landry is a 6rpg type guy starting. That wasn't going to cut it. He's a good 6th man -- versatile, change-of-pace, energy guy.
