[ClutchFans] For Rockets, winning in 2012 would be nice, but losing might be better

I don't like to reply much, but he's right. This team has been playing catch up two seasons in a row. It would be stupid to try and come back from a 2-8 start and get stuck with the 9th seed again:rolleyes:

If we're 5-5 after that brutal stretch, that means we have something worth playing for and we should be a legit team fighting for the 6-8 seed. If we're 15-15 after 30 games, then maybe tanking is the right way to go.

To be honest, there is no way we can tank.

we are a professional basketball team, I dont think tanking is an option the coaches or players even look at realistically. They're going to come out and play each game hard. The best players will start. Expect martin, lowry, and scola to start each game regardless if we're 2-8 or 2-28.

you try convincing the players to take a backseat to twill or thabeet. as much as some of us might want to look at the future of this team, no one will ever agree to tanking.

Tanking is an option. You don't have to convince players to take a back seat you just have to sit them down. Who do we have on this team that is so great at the 3 spot that putting TWill in front of them will be an insult? Same goes for Thabeet and the center position. We are much better off playing our young guys and seeing what we have. I honestly would like to watch the young guys get out there and see what they can do. If they suck then so be it and we don't resign them and move on. Leaving them on the bench and having no real clue of what they are capable of while fighting for a low seed in the playoffs is pointless to me. At some point in time you have to see what your players are made of and with such a good draft on the horizon this is the perfect time to do it.

    Does tanking offend me? Yes.

It offends me more that we have morons proposing tanking before the guys even play a minute into the season.

Tanking is an easy failure. Forget it and go watch the Cavs.

I will never understand or condone tanking.

I would rather be mediocre till the end of time than just "give in" in order for some faint hope of a lucky bouncing lottery ball giving us a once in a generation player.

It really doesn't happen that often.

I agree 100% with you. If everyone on our team isn't untouchable, then they should all be benchable. The bright side of tanking this season is the fact that we can get better thru the draft and not have to trade our core players to get a star.

Short season + tough schedule to start + strong draft makes it easier.

There are only 3 times in a season a team can tank.

    1. Before the season, if you trade away your best players in order to "rebuild".
    2. At the trade deadline, if you trade away your best players in order to "rebuild".
    3. Situational. One of your best players is out with an injury, and you make sure he's "fully healthy" before returning.

Asking a team to tank 10 games into the season is stupid. The players may tank if they gave up on the coaching staff and want to make a change. But there is no way in hell the team itself will make a concerted effort to tank at that time.

Do you consider playing younger players tanking?

Oh, really? And how useful is your thread? Do you break new ground? I think not. I posted five days ago in Clutch's recent thread that the first ten games in a shortened season would tell us a lot about what this team can do and whether tanking makes sense. This was directed at Clutch:

"When the season starts, we'll know a hell of a lot more about the direction of the team simply by observing what Morey has, or has not, done. Give us 10 games into this shortened season and we'll have a damn good idea if tanking is the way to go, or the way being followed. You've certainly given us plenty to think about, as per usual."

You haven't done anything new here. Even insulting people is hardly new, not in the GARM. But hey, carry on. I'm sure you're having a grand time.

why don't you wait until we are actually 2-8 or even close to that before you begin discussing if we should tank

I didn't insult anyone until that clown did. You can go read his posts about "tanking my life" and "your people insult me". I'm not gonna stay quiet to some idiot who has no life and posts 500x a day on here because he doesn't have a career.

Your post is on par with what I said, but the schedule was just released and I simply made an observation that the first 10 games are brutal and if we got off to an awful start, we should consider developing our young players instead of playing our regulars and finish with the 9th or 10th seed.

Notice I said "If". Why do people make threads regarding Lebron, Bosh, Howard, Paul, Williams, Gasol, etc coming to the Rockets thru trade?

I don't like tanking and I've been a Rockets fan since for over 20 years. Hell, I even play with them on NBA2k12 every time. I hope they shock the world and start off 8-2. I'm just simply saying IF they start off bad, they should consider playing the young kids which would most likely result in a top 5 lottery pick. There's only 4 months of suffering we'd have to endure.

Children give up when it looks too tough. Men fight till it's all over. And if the Rockets do tank they will have to trade Scola. Scola don't tank. Not for me, you, or your mother's sweet sugar cookies. Scola don't tank.

Actually, no player will tank. It's flat out impossible.

Just like no engineer will build a road that you can't drive on.
Or no progamer will purposely make a program fail.
Or no businessman who will purposely keep customers away from his product.

It's insane to think any player short of given a big ass life-time guaranteed contract like Moochie Norris to tank. Not only are they not programmed that way, it hurts their future earnings.
