2010 - 14th Pick (mediocrity) 2011 - 14th Pick (mediocrity) 2012 - 14th or 15th pick (mediocrity) 2013 - ?????? Where do you think the Rockets will end up? In Maury we trust
the problem is you guys are on a yoyo. just good enough to stay in the playoff hunt. lowry's injury killed ya'll's chances. and the morris pick was terrible. morey needs to learn how to not get tricky with his picks. but the grizzlies did the same thing in 2009, we took demare carroll instead of the more conventional choice: dejaun blair.
I don't think he should be fired just yet but I'm honestly tired with the product he's been pushing out for the last 3 years. Fools gold, false hope, and mediocrity. The MIT draft is getting us no where.
Well, yeah and duh! People can blow all the hot air and smoke they want to from on high in their imaginary GM serfdums for fantasy basketball. This is biz when we talk GM's, owners and contracts. Morey gets and deserves a do-over after the Czar pulled the sheep skin right out of his hands. No one can say what would have happened if THE TRADE had gone through. So, do-over. Now Do SOMETHING Morey. p.s. What color jersey will Kevin Martin, former leading scorer for the team in Houston, look good in?
Morey has not done anything wrong. It will be tough to find a gm nearly as good as him. He is just following directions to keep his job.
I vented about Morey..... but he is a good guy.... I don't mind if he is sticking.... I am all for firing McHale after another one or two seasons of mediocrity.
Morris didn't even get to play this year because of the log jam of players in front of him. Let the guy play some minutes before you decide what kind of player he is.
Because you finally realize what you told him to do WAS DEAD WRONG. Since you can't fire yourself, you have to fire the employee.
His only mistake was to give up a 1st for Terrance. He's been solid in every other move. Every trade he has made, has improved the team. He hasn't made the big move yet but it hasn't been because of lack of trying. You can't gut the team for 1 super star. NY is a perfect example.
Or change your instructions. What happens when he brings someone else in. Same thing. Les won't change and he is the one who runs it all.
Here is the question: Would you want anyone else making our two first round picks this offseason?I sure wouldn't
I would bet that if something major doesn't happen that Morey will walk away from this job before it tarnishes his reputation, and waits for another job that will let him run things the way he really wants to. This is his first GM job, he has done a fairly good one under rough circumstances, he might bail after next year.....before any more medicrity stains his rep. DD
I don't think the "firing Morey" camp was actually blaming him for the losses. Yes, we all understand that his hands were tied, and he could only do so much. I am sure he did his best. But the problem is, his best is not good enough. Morey is just a number guy, and he's very smart. In his mind, probably making bunch of average players perform above-average, is great achievement. Yes, it is remarkable. But it's worthless to fans. The problem lies in Les. He can't and won't be Cuban. However, I believe the GM should have a strong voice. I felt that Morey only does whatever Les told him to, and I do have a problem with that, because that's not working. If you don't want to trade your whole team for a star player, then tank to hope for better draft picks for young talents - lottery pick real talents. If you won't do either of the above, you will just be mediocre. In the West, you will miss playoffs. Under those circumstances, why does it matter whether Morey is smart or crafty? He can't convince his boss or even himself the best way to succeed is to have someone to build around. Then he should be fired. We can't fire Les after all, can we?
Now you see this is exactly what I have been trying to say all season. You just said it so much better.
Do you realize that when most owners tell their GMs to win now they go out and sign players to bad contracts and make bad trades. Just take a look at teams like the Suns and Magic. Morey has managed to do what Les has said without screwing over the franchise with terrible long term deals. No matter who the GM is if Les isn't willing to sign off on the deal it can't happen. I'd much rather have the guy that does what the owner says for the cheaper price tag. We could be much worse off than we currently are.
