rudy's had his two biggest games in the wake of zach coming back. i don't quite understand it unless he feels threatened by zach in some way.

the presence of a lethal post scorer with a midrange shot opens up opportunities for Rudy, now that there are two capable scorers on the floor, defenses have to play both of them straight up. This makes it incredibly hard to guard Memphis; Gay's speed and athleticism make not doubling him a questionable decision, as does letting Randolph operate in the post or on the elbow.

I would agree, but gay has come out with a purpose in these games. It hasn't been randolph, but gay's aggressiveness that's to accout for.

Sooo do you think the Grizzlies might miss the playoffs?

Zach Randolph’s return has put a damper on team chemistry it seems. The Grizzlies were 23-14 while Randolph was out and 1-4 since his return. 3 of those 4 losses were to sub .500 teams and the only win was against the Wizards. I wasn’t paying much attention to it because I thought the Grizz were a playoff lock, but their upcoming schedule is pretty brutal.

Grizzlies next five: Lakers, Wolves, Rockets, Bucks, Thunder. Then Warriors, then Mavs, Heat, Mavs, Clippers, Suns, Spurs, Jazz. DEAR. GOD.
— Hardwood Paroxysm (@HPbasketball) March 24, 2012

So is this just a normal slump or is there serious cause for concern?

I know it's not a Rudy Gay thing, but dear God, is OJ terrible. what, the Grizzlies have to be letting him walk after this season if they're rational, right?

It depends on how a lot of things pan out.

But just for your general knowledge of it: the grizzlies and heisley WILL NOT exceed the Luxury threshold which is set at 70 million.

As it stands now; the grizzlies would be around 62 to 63 million and having Spieghts, Darrell Arthur, OJ, Haddadi, all without contracts. Add to that about 800 to 1 million for our rookie 1st round pick and you can see that some of this is not up to the grizzlies.

OJ could potential land a deal that is 7 million or more a season, in which case the only way for him to be resigned would be to trade say, Tony Allen for the cap space.

Considering all of that, I'd put in about 70-30 that he won't be back, but there is always a possibility.

Rudy Gay with a mind boggling -21 today in a super important Western Conference showdown this afternoon.

How embarrassing would it be for the Grizzles and "what" if they finished behind the Rockets?

Like I've said, Rudy scores 9 in a row to close out the 4th quarter with a win. Nothing is said, nothing is mentioned, because the media doesn't built hero worship on the grizzlies team and especially not Rudy Gay. He is one of the most underrated players in the game (judging by his lack of allstar appearances), the grizzlies have played better this year without Zach for most of the year, but that is due to (gasol and tony allen), the media likes to say.

Again, if it were Lebron on a 9 point run to end a 4th quarter the puns would be slobbing the knob.

It fell off because no one cares to mock it anymore. Gay is obviously a great player, but he's not on Durant level.

Hi Leeb - nice that you could take some time offf from the barbershop to soak the nerds.

    I'll answer that for you.

His +/-, PER, all that stuff is probably exact ****ing same as it has been for five years. Above average, not superstar level or really very close. On the exact same plateau he's been at since he his sophomore campaign. And by that I mean literal flatline. He has not progressed one single iota, productivity wise, from those days.

Hint - that's not Kevin Durants level. If you're keeping track.

For waht it's worth if you really want to know, this thread generally only gets bumped when the Gaiety Society point out his occasional non 9-22 performance.

Then he'll have a few normal to sh-tty games.

The rest of us generally don't give enough of a crap to bump it. Because that would basically be most of the time.

TBH, I haven't been paying attention, because I don't share the Rudy Gay obsession like others seem too.

Im sure some bad games have been missed as well.

To wit, from the game log it appears he was pretty much straight garbage in early April.

Nobody bumped the thread, because nobody cared.

Rudy has been recovering from a shoulder injury all year. Recently he has been shooting his fts a lot better than he had been. But more than even that, Rudy looks unstoppable from the floor.

Rudy has always been better than Durant at gamewinning shots. It's not even a question about this.

But now rudy is putting 4 quarters together, and when he does that, it's ovah.

Haven't been paying much attention to the Grizzlies lately, is Randolph going to be integrated into the starting lineup anytime soon?

Should be interesting to see how Gay performs in his first playoffs, especially as the focal point of the team's offense.

Hollins came out and said that if the grizzlies secure a playoff spot that he is looking to increase his minutes to 32 to 35 minutes a game. He also mentioned that he is in no hurry to insert Zach in the starting lineup.

For historical preference: this is how Hollins usually operates. He is very stubborn and he doesn't care if you get your feelings hurt. Normally, the only time a change will occur is if the grizzlies LOSE a game in the playoffs, or play bad.

See: OJ Mayo last season playoffs. On the grizzlies board I actually predicted that at some point, despite what hollins said, Oj would be inserted in the starting lineup. And voila, fast forward to the playoffs, it happened.

I see Zach in the same boat. As long as the grizzlies win, it'll be business as usual, if they lose a game they should win, all bets are off.

If care to read what I wrote while you're enjoying whatever lame country you're in, I never said he was in durants company. I just giggle when people on this board act like he's not a good player. When the playoffs come, he will show he's an even better player because his game is built for the playoffs unlike kevin martin. When games are close,he can take and mke shots and that's also a plus in the playoffs. People posted about the schedule, now they are gone. People posted about them being bettr without him and now they're gone also. I watched the league, not jsut the rockets and rudy gay is better and more coveted than any rockets player. Regardles to whether people think he's flalined or not,he's durable, and effecient scorer. Notice no one has talked about him being a poor defednder anymore? No one has said he's dumb or uncoachable and that very important.

People are gone...BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING MORE TO SAY.

Rudy Gay is the same player he was at the beginning of the season, and in fact, the same player he was 6 years ago.

    It's not Kevin Durant.

It's a guy who's a little bit above average yet making LeBron James money. Borderline all-star, but on the wrong side of the border.

He gives you nice outside shooting, yet by being the best shooter at the worst risk/reward shot in basketball; he gives you nothing inside, and he needs a huge volume of touches (efficient scorer? Not even close.....). He is what he is. We know this. Form over function. Got it. Understood.

There's nothing else to say. It's the simple truth. Go back and read the thread. It's the same thing people said on page 1. Now it's a whole season later....and it's the exact same. He's the same player
