Why do people act like Morey didn't make a major trade last preseason?

As someone posted in this thread, Dragic is a better player you can build around than soft Pau. The trade for Pau would hart this team for a long run. Even for a short run, I am not sure that we could have a better record than our current one because we do not have Dragic, and Scola, I do not think Lin will play a major role in backup PG in this team too.

In 11 years, Gasol had only averaged 20 points twice, and 10 rebounds three times. Nene has never averaged more than 14.7 points or 7.8 rebounds in 10 seasons.

I wouldn't say contenders but no doubt we would have been better with gasol even if nene didn't sign... Tru story and I don't even like gasol that much but his length with camby would have been nice

Morey said that killed deal set the franchise back 3 years. I can believe that. Problem we have is that we still have Kmart & Scola's contracts on the books. We won't be rid of them and these contracts are what will hinder us from signing a free agent or making a big trade for one. Nobody will want to take on Kmart or Scola's contract so they will have to expire with us.

Morey flipped his hand correctly, it just got killed by Stern. Now we're stuck with the unflippable and depreciating assets.

We can always Amnesty one of them. Kmart's contract is up after next year so someone will take him since he is expiring after the 2012-2013 season.

That makes it sound like the trade was owed to us. Maybe if we would have consummated the deal, it would have moved us forward 3 years. But, if we're back 3 years from standing pat, it's because we started out 3 years behind.

Posting lines like these infuriates me and shows either lack of knowledge or ignorance of basketball. I guess Barkley and Drexler were busts and were not star players when they played here with Hakeem because they did not average over 20 per game. Your logic also says Bosh is a bust in Miami. He has only averaged over 20 a couple of times. Amare now sucks in NY. Maybe these "busts" don't need to score 20 on their team to win because the focus of their offense is elsewhere. Gasol plays with Kobe.....enough said!! Nene and Amare played or play with Melo "the black hole" Anthony ( No basketball can escape the gravity of his hands unless it is released toward the rim). If Gasol were in a different environment, he would be the focal point and he would score a lot more. Nene is asked to be Melo's (and now Wall's) garbage man. Pretty sure Bosh is not the focal point on his team. All can throw up 20 plus when they need to or are asked to. You are counting development years for Gasol and time spent with Kobe in those non 20 plus years. I am no great fan of Gasol's because he has played on teams that have all beaten the Rockets but I give him the respect he deserves and he has earned. He is 20 and 10 every time he steps on the floor where he does not share the ball with a superstar and a budding star player!!

I think Scola's contract set us three years behind. We should have signed and traded him imo to the Nets for assets. Writing was on the wall then to tear it down and rebuild. Same scenario as trading Gay for Battier. Battier was a two or three year stop gap for a team not wanting to get worse but also not have the ability to get better 3+ years later.

Of course, Les will not settle for a 'bad' team.

Any GM that has just one plan, just one, that if it falls through will set the entire organization back three years needs to be replaced. This is the NBA where something can always go wrong, and Morey is essentially admitting that he wasn't prepared for that. What, he didn't prepare for the possibility of Gasol failing his physical? Jeezus.

As much as I hate Pau, he and Nene put us somewhere in the 4th or 5th seed, at the very least.

Dragic will NEVER be an All NBA player and Gasol was 2nd team LAST YEAR. He's done it 3X and ALL NBA is a lot harder to get than All-star votes.

    The homerism continues.

    Blockbuster trades don't materialize overnight.

It takes months to put together, and they rarely make it that far.

That was a franchise changing trade... they happen about once every 4-5 years, if you're lucky.

Having an immediately executable "Plan B" in case of getting hit by a meteor is not a reasonable expectation.

Dragic will make the all-star game at least once in the next five years.

    Book it.

That said, yes, Pau will have had a much better career than Goran by the time it's all said and done... and he's a much better player right now.

You do if you are Raven. You have three plans in place and another written on a napkin in your vest pocket. Of course, I think Raven may be one of those ESPN trade Machine or 2K12 GM's where anything can work if the numbers fit so it is really easy for him to have the backup meteor strike plan. For the rest of us, you are right.....it is not a reasonable expectation to have a backup plan for an approved trade that is rescinded by the commissioner after he had been informed of the deal while it was happening and approved and then folded like a lawn chair after receiving pressure from other NBA owners (Cuban and others)!!

And the Pau hate continues. "He's soft (that's what she said), he's this, he's that, without that 'beard' he'd look like a Spanish Ichabod Crane..."

Put him on a team where Kobe doesn't hog all the shots and you'll remember his value.

You'd have a guy who legitimately plays both the 4 and 5, unlike, say, hmn, let me think, Scola and Ppat et al.

He isn't worth $19 million per year but I wouldn't complain if we acquired him, especially if it lures Llull over, and forces a trade of Lowry for a good lottery pick etc etc.

In 2 years, re-sign him for a more cap friendly contract and we'd be okay.

Not saying it's still an option, mind you.

And I'm glad we still have Goran. He would have been gone in the original deal.

Maybe, If Westbrook, CP3 or Ricky Rubio retire in 5 years.... and like I said, the All-star game means ****.
