Seems like a high potential guy with hard to find physical tools. He's projected to be a late first round or early second round prospect. Morey could use the dalas pick or buy a 2nd rd pick and steal him.

He's improved a lot on rebounding and is great at defense and shot blocking already. Deandrea Jordan v2?

All a matter of focus and work ethic with him. There's a lot of question marks regarding his drive and whether he has the maturity to be a professional. The biggest worry is that he'll coast and not develop his game. Not usually a good sign when guys struggle to stay in shape at the age of 19.

He's got perfect size and athleticism to succeed. Lots of comparisons to Sam Dalembert, though.

Might be worth a gamble though. I think he's got more potential than Thabeet ever did.

yeah still way too raw, plus a 2 cent head. Bad combo. He's worth a 2nd round flyer, but that's all.

I think his attitude ruined his stock. He is kind of a hot-headed. He would also be a huge steal in the late 1st early 2nd.

Come to think of it, a Fab Melo/ Royce White combo would be great! Melo was the defensive anchor of that Syracuse team.

I think if he wasnt such a screwup off the court and more disciplined he could clearly be considered a top 6 pick next year. At only 19/20 I would take a flyer on him and hope the allure of the unknown would entice teams to trade for him. Would be a interesting experiment.

I don't consider Fab Melo a high-potential prospect. Somewhere between the Kandi Man and Thabust.

Am I homophobic for wanting to add "Pause" after saying his name?

I see him as more of a young Camby which would be great.

Comparing them as college players, Feb Melo has about 1/10 of Camby's talent. I guess Camby would be his pie-in-the-sky stretch goal.

I'm with A_3PO on this one. Fab's been in a college zone defense for 2 years. That's all the defense he knows That's basically the same situation that Thabeet was in. No way Hosay!

Honestly, Fab Melo could sneeze in the NBA and be better than Thabeet. Moreover, Melo isn't projected to go very high in the draft ... low 20s and high 30s. Well worth the risk. The Heat seriously need to look at him and Ezeli. Honestly, he can be any worst than what they, if you have a starting center who can only grab 4 rebounds per game and has no type of offensive moves or explosion. How can you get any worse at center?

Agreed. I doubt he's as bad as Thabeet and the Heat need a legit C in the worst way. They are in salary cap jail and the draft may be the only way to improve at the position.

For everyone talking about his bad head. It may well be true he is not the smartest in the classroom, but he did manage to play well and do well under a fairly strict and rigid basketball mind in Boeheim.

At the picks that the Rockets will be looking at, he will definitely be worth risk

I dont know how much Syracuse BBall you guys watched this year, but Melo is not good enough to get minutes on the Rockets.

Meaning, they would never play him over guys like Patterson, Scola, etc. because he doesn't have it between the ears. The execution would not be there with Melo. He's a late 1st round pick you can groom in the mold of a Hassan Whiteside type. He wouldnt work out with the Rockets.

Fab has great instincts defensively. He is quick for his size. The Rockets lack size, brute force and aggression in the paint. Melo could bring that. Especially alongside Motiejunas.

We just need him to protect the rim when smaller more agile PF dribble past Motie. His good weakside defense is the key. Getting him with Mchale and Camby would do him wonders. Houston has always been somewhat of a great city for big men.
