Uh....I actually remember watching this on TV as a kid.

I don't remember which was a bigger disappointment as a child - this or KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park.

I watched both of those live too.

I think SW Holiday Special was a bigger disappointment coming off the movie. But it was still great for 9-years-olds in a time before VCRs/cable etc. Even if you could tell it was pretty cheesy even back then.

Pretty funny that Lucas has been unable to eradicate this from the world, no matter how hard he tries, it keeps popping back up.

I remember expecting the Star Wars thing to be meh, but the disappointment that was KISS meets the Phantom of the Park was colossal.

Even with Rifftrax I barely made it lol.

There are some movies that are just that bad. Transformers 2 was one of them, I couldn't get through it even with Rifftrax. There certain movies I watch only with RT... Twilight is one of them.

My friend has this burned to a DVD because his Dad collects movies. I've seen it once, it's pretty bad.

I won't lie, I LOVED watching the Star Wars Special....not the Special itself, but the ads. They were great!

Proof that Lucas had lost it long before the prequels. Either he knew and didn't care, knew and didn't think it was awful, or didn't care enough to even keep tabs on the project. Any of those scenarios make him look bad, but he doesn't give a #### because him and his neck or richer than God.

Maybe he wanted to hedge his bets and make inroads or contacts in television. I don't know to what extent studios or the industry as a whole thought they could bet on blockbusters. I sense part of why movie-going might have been much more enjoyable back then is that studios really didn't try to guess which film would do the best, so they willingly invested equally in all different types of films; and theatres followed suit by not necessarily showing the same exact thing everywhere at the same time. It's also possible that Lucas was trying to make family friendly alternatives with sci-fi in the '70s like studios were doing with musicals in the '60s.

This thing came out a year after ANH, way before TESB and ROTJ...

And Lucas definitely "cares" about Star Wars in general. Probably not about this, which has "cheapo TV cash in" written all over it. But whether you like him or not the guy cares about his movies and does them his way. It's one thing to have an opinion on his work, it's another to demonize him and say he never really had it going back more than 30 years.
