It seems like Morey is better at finding late first round and second round gems than actually picking from late lotto.

In that case this pick might be pretty valuable in this deep draft.

I'm rooting for the Mavs to lose, for a few reasons:

    1) Even though it's a deep draft (the only thing that does make me sway to the other side), I think it will be hard, even if it's possible, to move up to get a real impact player. Instead of possibly ending up with 3 picks to bring onto the roster, I'd rather have 2 this year and have an additional one in our back pockets for the future.

    2) The more they lose, the more it helps the Rockets. I do want us to make the playoffs this year (I'm not going to lie, I would be ok if we didn't). I don't expect us to go far, but I'd like to see it, and for our players to gain that experience. It may also help us retain some players a little more cheaply/easily. It will also rid us of that dreaded pick to the Nets, although this may not be the best year to do that. At least if the Mavs continue to lose, and we manage to pass them, the pick will be that much worse.

    3) Until the Mavs fulfill the obligation of the pick, it keeps their hands tied. Anything that hurts the Mavs is a positive in my eyes. Not being able to trade a first round pick, unless you're able to trade for another (and that extra one has to be an unprotected pick), can definitely make it more difficult to make trades.

    4) Who knows, we may get lucky and not get the pick until 2018.....

Overall, I can see the positives and negatives to both sides, although I see more positives if the Mavs lose. When it comes to them winning, the only positives I see are:

    1) We get an extra 20+ pick this year.

    2) We have a better chance of keeping our first round pick.

To be honest, I can see how someone can be torn either way. I think it goes deeper than this. I think the real question is, how many picks do you want the Rockets to have this year? Is there such a thing as too many draft picks in a single year? Even in the year of a draft that's known as one of the best in a while? I think the answer is yes, mostly because it is so difficult to trade up for a potential star. For this reason, I'd rather us end up with 2 first rounders at most. Keep in mind as well, unless we're one of the 10 worst teams in the league, our 2nd round pick will be going to Detroit, so as of this time, we do not have a 2nd rounder. Yes, I know we can always "buy one".

In my opinion, I would like to get 2 of the 3 picks, and have one for the future that we could throw into a trade, even if it's our own (right now we can't do that due to the NJ pick obligation). If we do end up with 3 this year, and can't move up with them, I'd like to see us trade for a future first+??.

Right now the Mavs are #12 overall and are just percentage points behind Boston, and a full game behind Memphis. We'll see what happens, but I'll be happy either way.

Amen to that. I do not care about draft picks, I care about Rockets in the playoffs which will go a long way for non-committed fans. I know Morey's answer will be, WIN for Mavs so he can put his magic touch on the draft.

If there's a way for the Rockets to get the 6th seed and the Mavs to be in the top 10, I'm all for it. To me when I look at the standings, it'll probably be close.
Looking at the standings now, Memphis is beginning to play well, Clippers and Lakers have been playing well as of late too. In the East, you have some teams playing well also -- Boston, Atlanta, Indiana. The direction the Mavs are heading with some of these losses like tonight.. it seems as though there's a better chance they probably won't end up in the top 10. Their remaining schedule is as follows:

    @Memphis
    vs. Sacramento
    @ Golden State
    @ Portland
    @ LA Lakers
    @ Utah
    vs. Houston
    vs. Golden State
    @ Chicago
    @ Atlanta

Out of those, I can see them going 6-4. I personally think they won't move past Memphis so we might as well try to get that 6th seed for ourselves. If they start winning though, I'm all for them taking the 5th seed or higher and us trying to get that 6th seed then.

Unless the Mavs go on a major winning streak we will never get their pick. Cuban will never let it happen. He wants that pick this year.

If the Mavs are at the 10 slot on the last game of the season and a loss drops them to the 11th watch Cuban tank. He will bench every starter and contend he is resting them.

The only exception will be if it mean home court in the first round. But if nothing is at stake close to the end watch Dallas go into tank mode for to keep their pick.

Lets see now, Parsons was selected in the 2nd round, and he seems pretty good. So, how about a player better than Parsons, since this would be a first round pick.

I don't think the Mavs have a chance this year. I feel sorry for VC. He will have to ring chase again next year. That is if any team still interested in him.

This draft is deeper than most so I want the Mavs to win.

Rockets can maybe flip their 1-3 pick(s) for something bigger.

I want them to lose and for the pick to ride a bit until the Mavs suck in about 3 or 4 years and THEN we get the pick...

I want them to keep winning so we can get their draft pick, but sadly thats not going to happen this season. They have to be a top 10 team, and currently they are #12. And I don't see them becoming a top ten team by the end of this season.

Matt Barnes stepping out of bounds and dunking home three-pointers while still in flight -- terrible officiating in that game in overtime. Mavs lose to Lakers... doesn't look like Dallas has much of a real shot of finishing top 10. No draft pick this year from them.

The way things are going with the Knicks, Rockets and Mavs... can't think of a worse finish to this year for draft purposes. This whole season is just a big headshaker to me.

    21st pick doesn't mean much.

Who knows, if Dallas doesn't get Deron Williams, that pick could be valuable when the protection runs out.
