On the contrary, you just amplified it. Everyone but the most intentionally ignorant Republicans have known since Jr. High history classes that the parties have changed tremendously since the 1860's.

Today's Republicans appealing to Lincoln in the hopes that it will mask their policies is roughly the same as the Catholic Church appealing to Christ in the hopes it will mask their failings. Both institutions have made choices that would be anathema to their founders.

Mr Obama will crush Romney on both the economy and the Romneycare debate.

    Our extremely pro-republican military

Obama had to be pulled off the golf course and then had to hem and haw to make what should have been an easy decision. Shameful leadership.

So you had to resort to personal insults. Of course, I'll be the bigger man and not stoop to your level.

You may think that, but the Obama campaign doesn't. That's obvious to everyone.

How anyone could vote for Romney is just beyond me. This douche is the epitome of what is wrong with our political system today. Invents Romneycare and then flames it to hell when it becomes politically inconvenient for him; he pretty much supported a national version of it up until... well you know the Democrats decided to adopt it. Unlike Thomas Jefferson, a founding father and FREE THINKER (not a overly religious fundamentalist as so many conservatives claim), Romney only cares about his vote and his party.

This level of presumptive arrogance that the views one holds are the popular ones always amazes me.

By all the standard metrics that POTUS are measured by (approval rating, gas prices, unemployment rate), Obama is a mixed bag at best.

Romney is a mainstream candidate with an extensive executive resume and a competent organization. He's a reasonable alternative who is not going to make mistakes, and Obama is not going to be able to make the race about Mitt. No one's afraid of Ward Cleaver.

Reagan was 25 points behind Carter at this time in 1980. Romney is already tied or ahead of Obama and has just started his general election campaign.

Romney doesn't make the moral case all that well (he's getting better), but one thing his team is extremely good at is developing simple hard data points to craft a narrative or subpar performance by Obama. This emphasis on data is very much in line with Romney's management style turning around companies at Bain Capital.

Obama is going to get firehosed with negative narratives. Romney pointing out that 92% of jobs lost in Obama's administration have been women is a preview of what's to come.

He's going to save America by dumping half of the employees, then selling it at a firehouse price?

Trash like you choose neighborhoods and judge co-workers on the same basis, so seems fair enough.

Yes, we all know the narrative is going to come from Citizen's PACs, not Romney's weak sauce.

...incidentally, do people know what people in management consulting do?

I have a hard time believing that since most people are clamoring for one of them to lead the nation. heh.
