I think it's funny how hardly anyone wears the new logo and colors.. Everyone is in the throwback uniforms hats and shirts.. I wish les would just go with a 2012 version of the red and mustard yellow!!
believe it or not, most citys are full of bandwagon fans...people like a winner..with the exception of a few cities who support their teams no matter what and have lots of tradtion most of them are like Houston...if you WIN, they will come!!...if you lose or haven't done much lately, you are gonna have fans who just don't really care...I have gotten used to it, nothing you can do and it won't change....
were barely average more than me this season. even teams like cleveland (yes cleveland) average more than us. getting a superstar cures everything like the others said. the pacers are the current 3rd seed in the nba and they are 29th in average attendance.
He really needs to. It's long overdue. Rockets fans are also spoiled. So use to having a superstar. That's all the team needs again.
1. I was at the game. I thought the crowd was fine. I was on the 10th row across from the Jazz bench...they were loud. It wasn't playoff atmosphere, but it wasn't bad either. People around me all had on their red shirts. The guy I went with commented that about the crowd being good. I'd argue the crowd was a helluva lot better than the product on the floor. 2. The Rockets are extremely boring to casual NBA fans. Most NBA fans across the country are casual fans. That's just the way it works. The NBA for decades marketed itself around the superstar/personality model...of which the Rockets have none. My friend, who has had season tickets for 5 years, specifically said, "I wish there was something to be excited for long term with this team. But it's really hard to identify with a group of players that you know won't be here very long and who haven't accomplished anything together anyway." That's coming from a guy who spends a ton of money on really good season tickets. Expecting people to come out and be wild and crazy for a team that is consistently mediocre is expecting too much....in any market.
NYC also has 8.2M people in its city limits alone. That's about as much as the Houston and San Antonio metro areas combined. Shouldn't be hard to fill up a 19,000-seat stadium considering that.
Are you from NY? I was actually wondering if all of the other NY teams (Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, etc) are always full houses. Although I was being sarcastic with my earlier comment, I do think New Yorkers in general are more enthusiastic about their teams. Probably because every given year, at least one or two of their teams are doing well. Also I heard if you go to the Toyota Center with your Toyota car, you'll get a discount.
of course the yankees, giants, and jets are always sold out even with the high prices. new stadiums plus good teams (except the jets) will equal sellouts in big markets. the mets don't really sell out. they didnt even have a sell out on opening day against the braves.
one last thing i want to addd... if we do indeed make the playoffs, i sure hope us rocket fans buy all the damn seats and do not leave any for the other team's fans (spurs, lakers, mavs, etc) the thought of seeing them cheer louder than us is disgusting. this came to mind last year's playoffs between the pacers and bulls in indianapolis.
I just hope the people complaining here are either distant Rockets fans OR go to games at least occasionally. If you live in the Houston area, and you haven't gone to the Toyota center in years, your complaints here sound hollow. Having said that.... The Rockets organization needs to find a way to make the court side seats available at a reasonable price to last minute walk up customers. AND if they have em and they haven't been sold 10 minutes prior to game time then go and find some people in other sections and move em down just prior to tip off. Think of the goodwill that would generate and the stadium would look better and come alive with energy.
The Rockets haven't done anything to warrant a sellout crowd. We haven't had any success in the playoffs for 15 years, nor have we had any success in the draft. Irving sells tickets when you lose. All of those saying the Texans, football city, Houston has so many people: 1) The Texans only play 16 games in a season (excluding one playoff game). Eight of those are home games. Make football season 82 games and see how many fans show up every game. 2) Houston is huge and there is traffic. Some people find it more convenient to tune in locally than to drive one hour to see a mediocre team lose. 3) Not everyone subscribes to Cable or has FSN if Comcast doesn't provide Cable in their area, so they can't even follow the team. To a lot of Houston residents the Rockets don't exist. Is there a statistic for dunks per game? I'm sure the Rockets are on the bottom of that list for the past 5 seasons.
