Yep, add to that lowry complaining and flopping as well as martin the king flopper. We use to say, just play ball and stop whining. This rockets team is full of flopppers and are hard to watch if u really like hoops.
Strange. The main complaint in this thread is Scola and he's not a whiner. Neither is Martin. In general, the Rockets do not complain very much to the refs. Lowry is probably the only exception.
I am disgusted by your thread...come on man, you are better than that...you support your guys....you think Jazz fans hated on Malone or Stockton for being floppers?..NO!!....Scola flops, I admit..but it has become part of the NBA and he is not the only one who does it....why so much hate for scola..i think he is so under rated as a PF...his offensive game does not get enough credit....he lacks defense but he plays hard..keeps his mouth shut and never pouted after almost being traded...he is a class guy to me...why is it that people find somethng to b**ch about....save your hate for the opponnents not for our guys!! yeah I might sound like a homer but isn't that what a FAN is!!???
do you guys watch other games in the NBA?....half the players in this league complain...if you ever played ball, you would too and understand their frustration...i don't see a problem with players complaining to refs because all that complaining sometimes gets them a call in the 4th quarter!!..why do you think coaches ride the refs all night??!!...they know they can't change the call the ref just made but it sets them up to get a call later on in the game......especially with the horrible officiaiting in the NBA these days..how can you not complain..ie joey crawford last night!!
so when scola puts up 20 pts 12 boards and makes a big shot for our rockets in the playoffs, you will not root for him?...what does that say about you as a rocket fan?...i'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you are just frustrated but maybe you should calm down and wait to start threads like this in the future....I don't post that much anymore but when i see people hating on our own players, it really bugs me...
Well said. I also agree with Mr. Van Rocket. Is flopping a layer of excrement upon the shining beauty of the NBA game? Of course. Would it be great if it disappeared tomorow, never to be seen again? Yes, it would. But what is reality? Flopping goes on, and superstars do it as much as lesser beings like our dear Luis Scola. Gonna hammer Scola for it? Then raise hell about everyone else. Luis is far from the only offender, on our team, or on any other team in this league. We didn't lose the last game because of Luis, and we didn't lose because of any flopping that he did. Making a rediculous deal out of it is, well, just rediculous.
The flopping has gotten out of hand to where it's become a major part of the game. Exaggerating contact is nothing new, but the frequency and the degree to which it is exaggerated in the NBA now exceeds all major sports (and flopping is the reason that I won't even consider soccer a major sport, but soccer still has basketball beat by a long way in terms of crazy flopping ). Hockey is a great comparison sport...while I agree with the diving penalty (even though it isn't enforced all the time, either), there is a culture within hockey that just doesn't support the practice en masse. It's akin to faking an injury to slow down a no-huddle offense or trying to pick off a runner at first ten times in a row to give your bullpen more time. These things happen, but it's generally viewed as weak and pathetic (and should be). I'm not asking my Rockets to be hockey players who should shrug off all contact if they get fouled...but I'd just rather they not act like soccer players who fall down at the hint that contact might be coming. That is Scola, that is a lot of players in this league, and that is the direction the league has been heading for years. That being said, I don't expect all of you to agree with me - you can see the game the way you want to. And the question is not whether or not everyone does it (that indeed may be the point) or how effective it is. The NBA is apparently not trying to keep me as a fan, the longer this stuff continues. And that's okay. But I certainly am not going to excuse Scola from my ire just because he wears a Rockets jersey. Had Stockton or Malone worn a Rockets jersey, I would not have cheered them either (and calm down everyone, I'm not saying Scola=Malone here, I'm just making a point). With decreasing frequency. I am starting to prefer sports where the players act like men and let their athleticism and talent dominate their play. Now I'm going to go back to watching the NHL Playoffs (except Vancouver, who is like the Jazz of fifteen years ago (sorry 3814).
soccer fans complain there is too much flopping in soccer...football fans complain that the NFL is soft for protecting the QB's too much and its not like Football used to be back in the day...every sport has its complaints....my point is, when we lose people just want somebody or something to blame..this thread was started as a knee jerk reaction to a loss... how can you call Scola a schmuk and that you won't cheer for him if you call your self a ROCKETS FAn..to me you are not a fan if you are not rooting for the players on the team
This thread could have been started any time in the past two years. The fact that it was posted after a loss doesn't change its validity. I'm not looking for someone to blame after that loss - I just never thought I'd see the day where the Rockets are bigger floppers than the Jazz. It feels so dirty. I would never call Scola a schmuk - first, because that's not a word (or at least not one spelled correctly). But second, and more importantly, I called him a flopper - which he is, and one of the worst. I am happy when the Rockets succeed and disappointed when they do not - but the product is getting harder and harder to watch each year, no matter the record. All of that said, I would not mourn a Scola trade (even if the return wasn't fabulous)...I hate watching him play.
I don't like Scola's (or sometimes Lowry's) flopping, but from the games I have seen so far this season, it hasn't really been all that bad relative to most of the league. I didn't see this game, though, so I don't know if he did something extraordinarily bad. Still, he seems like a good guy, he's a good player, he works hard, and he's a Rocket. I mean he's no Andrew Crynum or anything. He has my support and doesn't deserve that much hate from any real Rockets fan. But I do very much want him to cut back on the flopping..
As much as i wanted to hate him, i just couldn't hate kevin love because of what he did to Scola, I'm not homer enough to not understand why it would happen.
when i said that I was referring to the "rockets fan" who started this thread.....when you say he is the worst, do you mean he is good at it and gets away with it or he flops and never gets the call?... do you think spurs fans hate Manu or support him...the dude acts like he got shot out of a cannon everytime he is touched....every team has a flopper...and until the NBA cleans it up, its a part of the game now...if we get a call out of it, I have no problem with it....the guy is a hard worker and can play....
Like I said...so far in 1st half scola is carrying us...he is under appreciated...what's disgusting is.that our own fans pile on him....of course buddinger is playing huge too
What's the difference between this "flopping" and sliding over to take a charge? Parsons just slid over and took a charge. There's no difference. You're deliberately getting in someones way to make them run you over and get a foul call. So what? We should try to win at ALL COSTS and do whatever it takes. We get screwed by other teams and players (Chris Paul) getting flop calls all the time, and we get screwed by the refs all the time. I say anything we have to do to increase our chances of winning is FAIR GAME. Take or be taken.
Carrying them offensively. These are one way players. If they aren't scoring they are pretty useless. The Rockets need Scola more than anyone right now to make their offense work. Its a double edged sword. They need to address that need over the summer. Scola isnt a long term solution to build around because he can't dominate every team offensively enough to build a team around his deficiencies. We are sort of stuck with Scola for the time being so I will keep rooting for him, but the Rockets need to develop their young guys or make a trade here at some point or we aren't going anywhere. You cant win big with him/your dead in the water without him. Still love him though. Great guy to have on the team, you would just prefer him to come off the bench or be matchup up with a superstar center like Yao/Dwight/ Shaq.
