You can report it on ebay. The seller is the one getting scammed and if this becomes widespread then ebay will remove the retraction loopholes which may be detrimental to someone who really did put in the wrong amount. Or the next time you see this guy doing this, wait until the last 5 seconds and put in a bid of 490. You'll stick him with an overpriced ipad.
You know that the seller and the fake buyer are the same person....he's scamming potential buyers to make them overpay. The worse case that happens if you try to stick it to this seller is the fake buyer account wins the auction, and the seller just files a non payer claim....
I see this as the fake bidder and the winner are the same person. He jacks up the price of the item to scare off all other bidders. Then with 3 seconds remaining the fake bidder retracts his bid high bid that is scaring everyone else from bidding and lets his 2nd (winning @$326) bid win. fake bidder: http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI....eName=PageBidderProfileViewBids_None_ViewLink winner (same as fake bidder) http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI....eName=PageBidderProfileViewBids_None_ViewLink They both put there bids within an hour of ending so the item can be jacked up to scare off all other bidder but leaves enough time so that the bid can be retracted. $500 bid gets placed by fake bidder at Apr-12-12 19:01:59 PDT $495 bid gets placed by winning bidder at Apr-12-12 19:02:09 PDT (10 seconds later) $500 bid gets retracted by fake bidder at Apr-12-12 19:58:03 PDT (3 seconds before auction ends) winning bidder gets IPad2 64 gb for $326. http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&_trksid=p4340.l2565&rt=nc&item=190666031482 Notice that fake bidder has made 2 bids in his new ebay life...both on were retracted in the hour. Winner and fake bidder are scamming sellers IMO.
ok so the bid was at 326, but his highest was 495? right..so even tho his highest bid was 495, the actual was at 326? just making sure, I need a new phone :grin::grin::grin:
hey I'm not going to tell you how that works anymore than I already did but if you know ebay, you see what a sneaky thing this guy pulled on the seller. Also smart to chose a seller who does a ton of business because he probably won't notice a thing since he's/they're too busy filling orders. But if you don't know what you're doing you might get stuck overpaying. This guy knows what he's doing.
The only problem that I see with this is that you're not supposed to be able to retract your bid with 3 seconds left unless the seller redacts your bid. so my thinking is that the scam was pulled by the seller to try to get someone to bid over $500 for the item.
You can retract any bid that has over 12 hours remaining OR if you retract the bid within the hour of making it - I know because I've done it though I haven't done this - more buyers remorse with minutes remaining. I've also been the benefactor of someone doing that. I bid and it said I was outbid. I was looking around some more and got an email saying I had won at a pretty low price because it drops down to just over the 3rd highest price. You can see who retracted it and why - the bid placer retracted it. Otherwise it would show up as a seller cancelled the bid. And I really doubt that the seller is going to do what he did because he's going to lose almost every time. Who's going to bid more than $500 for a used ipad 64? Now he has to sell his ipad for a dirt cheap price. But if someone is crazy enough to bid more than $500, then the scammers move on to the next item - there are plenty out ther. Plus I doubt the seller can put a bid in for exactly $5 over the next highest bidder 10 seconds after that bid is placed which is what happened here. IMO the seller is getting scammed. Edit: Here is ebay's rules on bid retraction: http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/bid-retract.html#cond 1) Listing ends in more than 12 hours? Yes. When you retract the bid, we remove all bids you placed on the item. If you are correcting a bidding error, you must bid again. 2) Listing ends in less than 12 hours? Yes, but only if you retract the bid within one hour of placing it. When you retract the bid, we remove only your most recent bid. Bids you placed prior to the last 12 hours of the listing are not removed.
you know i did not know that buyers can retract bids like that. good call artv. i always assumed that it was up to the seller to do that
