There are destinations which are definitely popular but for some reason you might not have any interest at all in going to. For some it might be Paris (A place I love, and would go any time I could) For others New York or LA

For me, it's Miami. It's in Florida which I'll only go to if I'm going to Disney World, or the keys. To me the kind of night life it seems to have, attracts the kind of people I usually try and avoid at all costs. I mean it seems like it attracts first class a-holes. I don't generally have any affection for the kinds of women I've seen there. I have some interest in really good Cuban food, but I feel like I can still get that elsewhere, without having to put up with Miami.

What place has no real appeal for you?

Thats kinda like the discussion about amusement parks in the "Earth Quest" thread. Like how people stopped going to Astroworld because of the negative element it attracts.

Its the OBVIOUS destinations are the ones that attract the GENERAL populace. Which includes the a-holes. When its popular its because people are NOT selective.

Really it never fails, a place is "cool" at first, then it becomes "ghetto", then the hip crowd tries to find somewhere else more "distinct".

New York. Yay it's cold, dirty and all you see is a bunch of concrete and steel!

I agree with that especially when you are talking about a hang out spot. I don't know so much when talking about cities.

Like I said, Paris is still popular place to go, and I love it. I live in LA, and I love NY as well, or at least a lot about it.

I go on vacation to do as little as possible...by a beach...with a drink in my hand.

That's a good distinction to make. There's a difference between a relaxing vacation, and going somewhere for the experience of a place. It's the difference between traveling and vacationing I think. And they are two different things with two different types of destinations.

I second this. New York is just nasty. And in the summer you can just replace cold with really hot.

I like NY, but I'll say that I prefer the winter there any time over the summer there.

I think I can live without visiting lovely downtown Detroit, Michigan or scenic Gary, Indiana. Although it has its charms, I think I can forgo spending time in that play land of the of cultural elite that's known as Jersey City. Cosmopolitan Marthaville, LA has that hustle and bustle that only New York can dream about matching, but it's not for me. The meth labs smell lovely this time of year in Bakersfield, CA but I think I'll pass.

I didn't know Detroit was a popular destination.

Mine is Miami... I had a layover there once. I was probably the only person not wearing a big gold chain.

Popular destinations I havE no interest in going to?

Popular destinations. I prefer adventurous and isolated areas. Or areas where people wouldn't go for "vacation" but travel, stay in filth if I have to..just for the experience

Despite having spent a lot of time in New York, I can't stand it. It's a hectic, stressful, crowded, dirty dump.

Right. Its "party cities" too I was wanting to include in. Places like South Padre, Daytona Beach, Vegas, Ibiza, cities where the "decadance" is known to be. (Yeah some of that is about the younger college meat market crowds, not a general demographic.)

I agree on the choice of Florida. I live near LA, have family in both NY and Florida. I'm getting sick of LA area, but I'd still put Florida at the bottom, would much rather head to NY. FLA just doesnt appeal.

I don't beat myself up about having no interest in Europe, I'm not much of a "europhile". So the entire continent would count for me. BUT I'm warming up to visting places with older historic culture

Definitely Miami, it's a severely overrated city.
