LAL doesn't really have much of a choice. With increased revenue sharing and a deeply punitive luxury tax, the only prudent choice for a payroll as large as theirs is to cut, cut, cut. This is independent of Buss and Kupchak's relationship.
Well, the only player in the NBA that wouldn't roll his eyes would be Shane Battier ... and maybe Jeremy Lin. Too bad Morey didn't keep those guys in our locker room.
What? No I don't...I think most of them are not very educated, and that probably explains why most of them go broke within 5 years of leaving the league. I would say compared to the average populace, I would hazard to guess the NBA is below the bell curve, in regards to it's players intelligence or lack thereof. DD
I think most NBA players expect him to pull out a comically-oversized machine gun and start firign it into the air a la Idiocracy. Stupid morey, can't relate to players the way DD can.
Morey is hardly stupid, just because he is nerdy and not a very good manager of people does not make him stupid. SHEESH ! DD
Agree, DD. He's not stupid. What would make him stupid would be if he was a know-it-all blowhard who bloviated ad nauseum for over a decade with the same few tired cliches, premised on a toxic mixture of deliberate ignorance, willful fabrications, pulled-out-of-your-arse conjecture, and other logical fallacies. SHEESH
I hate how being smart and savvy with numbers and math constitutes "nerdiness". Promotes the whole "oh you have mathematical proof against my point? Well you're a nerd".
It's just the way he sounds like a character from the BIG BANG THEORY sometimes. Most fans are passionate about their team. We believe! Clutch City! Heart of a Champion! or a far cry from there's a 96% chance to make the playoffs! (for the record he didn't say 96.38 although I am sure he calculated it further than that) Nothing wrong with Morey doing that. But ask yourself knowing that did the Rockets play harder or softer. I think it makes no difference at best. Nothing is given on this league. A 96% chance to make it simply means there is a chance they won't. People on Clutch fans know that more than most.
Precisely. Don't understand why that number is being broken down into anything more than just an interesting stat. Players aren't annoyed he said it, don't see why fans should too.
For me it’s not so much being annoyed just is it really necessary. Think to yourself what that percentage means. It means Morey has actually calculated a value for every team in the league. And then formulated an equation to extrapolate and postulate that team value vs every other team value they compete against to come up with a win or lose percentage across the remaining games of the season to determine the likelihood of us making the playoffs. Through his expert analysis (no mocking here) Morey has determined the Rockets have a 96% chance to make the playoffs. Nothing wrong with Morey doing that. Les is paying a lot of stat geeks a lot of money to crunch those numbers and come up with that kind of data. Here’s the thing that gets me. It was probably a 96% chance we would not beat Chicago last week given they had never lost a back to back all year. It was at least a 96% chance we would lose to the thunder in Oklahoma when we were down by 11 with 2:29 left in the game. It was at least a 96% chance we would lose to Phoenix after they blew us out in Games One and Two and took a 3-1 lead. It was a 99.99 % chance we would not win an NBA championship that year after getting behind 3-1 to the Suns. There was probably a 96% chance that Jeremy Lin would leave us and not blow up somewhere else. Of course we know how all of those things turned. There is nothing wrong with crunching number. I am glad we have a GM who is the best at it. But at the same time stats are important and then they are worthless. History makes stats and champions make history. I am old school like that. Don't ever tell me the odds are against me or the odds are in my favor. I pretty much know what the odds are. That if we beat Utah and Phoenix this week we got a pretty good lock on the playoffs. Develop your stats but never underestimate the heart of a champion. As you can see much like Morey I have too much time on my hands.
