The new CBA stops players from getting traded, bought out, and going back to their old team after 30 days. Now you have to wait a year to go back.
More Morey: Morey Discusses Implications Of Trade Deadline Daryl Morey, the Houston Rockets General Manager, discusses their trade for Marcus Camby. <span style='text-align:left;display:block;'><p><object type='application/x-shockwave-flash' data='http://s2.wp.com/wp-content/plugins/audio-player/player.swf?m=1236370442g' width='290' height='24' id='audioplayer1'><param name='movie' value='http://s2.wp.com/wp-content/plugins/audio-player/player.swf?m=1236370442g' /><param name='FlashVars' value='&bg=0xf8f8f8&leftbg=0xeeeeee&lefticon=0x666666&rightbg=0xcccccc&rightbghover=0x999999&righticon=0x772124&righticonhover=0xffffff&text=0x666666&slider=0x666666&track=0xFFFFFF&border=0x666666&loader=0x772124&soundFile=http://cbshouston.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/daryl-morey-3-16-12.mp3' /><param name='quality' value='high' /><param name='menu' value='false' /><param name='bgcolor' value='#FFFFFF' /><param name='wmode' value='opaque' /></object></p></span> MP3: http://cbshouston.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/daryl-morey-3-16-12.mp3 http://houston.cbslocal.com/2012/03/16/morey-discusses-implications-of-trade-deadline/ Not really a must-listen to be quite honest, though. Pretty much said the same as earlier today. On backup the PG situation with Lowry out: "Right now, as the roster stands, without any pick-ups, we can have Courtney Lee and Chandler (Parsons) be in the game at the same time and they can sorta interchange and be the ball handler and get things started on offense" On the Rockets chances to make the playoffs: "We'll probably need to win half of our games to make it. We'd obviously like to do better than that. I think it's pretty open, we could get up to even to 4 or 5 seed, if we go on a run here like we did last year at the time."
Evidentally Fisher does think he has leverage, because these buyout negotiations are continuing to drag out. Or, as Clutch mentioned, Fisher may not be confident he can get a contract with a playoff contender, and may decide he doesn't want to leave $3.6M on the table.
Camby Bringing Leadership To Rockets Rockets GM Daryl Morey joined Vandermeer and Lopez and they talked about the job Gorin Dragic is doing in the starting lineup, Marcus Camby contributions since trade and his thoughts on what seed the team will end up as for playoffs. http://houston.cbslocal.com/2012/04/05/camby-bringing-leadership-to-rockets/ http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/nyc.podcast.play.it/media/d0/d0/d1/d0/d8/d8/d1/10881_3.MP3 <span style='text-align:left;display:block;'><p><object type='application/x-shockwave-flash' data='http://s2.wp.com/wp-content/plugins/audio-player/player.swf?m=1236370442g' width='290' height='24' id='audioplayer1'><param name='movie' value='http://s2.wp.com/wp-content/plugins/audio-player/player.swf?m=1236370442g' /><param name='FlashVars' value='&bg=0xf8f8f8&leftbg=0xeeeeee&lefticon=0x666666&rightbg=0xcccccc&rightbghover=0x999999&righticon=0x772124&righticonhover=0xffffff&text=0x666666&slider=0x666666&track=0xFFFFFF&border=0x666666&loader=0x772124&soundFile=http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/nyc.podcast.play.it/media/d0/d0/d1/d0/d8/d8/d1/10881_3.MP3' /><param name='quality' value='high' /><param name='menu' value='false' /><param name='bgcolor' value='#FFFFFF' /><param name='wmode' value='opaque' /></object></p></span> "We're gonna go in the off-season with a plan and hopefully bring those guys (our free-agents) back." "We've always had our eye on Camby and didn't get a chance to get him [...] always hoped that we could bring him in to the Rockets and hopefully he can finish his career here." Also said that we'd probably get in the playoffs with 35 wins. 36 wins would be more comfortable. 38-39 wins for the 4th or 5th seed.
Morey Still Has High Hopes For Playoffs Rockets GM Daryl Morey joined Vandermeer and Lopez and they discussed the latest with the Rockets as well as their tough loss to the Jazz Wednesday night. http://houston.cbslocal.com/2012/04/12/morey-still-has-high-hopes-for-playoffs/ http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/nyc.podcast.play.it/media/d0/d0/d1/d0/d9/dV/dG/109VG_3.MP3 <span style='text-align:left;display:block;'><p><object type='application/x-shockwave-flash' data='http://s2.wp.com/wp-content/plugins/audio-player/player.swf?m=1236370442g' width='290' height='24' id='audioplayer1'><param name='movie' value='http://s2.wp.com/wp-content/plugins/audio-player/player.swf?m=1236370442g' /><param name='FlashVars' value='&bg=0xf8f8f8&leftbg=0xeeeeee&lefticon=0x666666&rightbg=0xcccccc&rightbghover=0x999999&righticon=0x772124&righticonhover=0xffffff&text=0x666666&slider=0x666666&track=0xFFFFFF&border=0x666666&loader=0x772124&soundFile=http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/nyc.podcast.play.it/media/d0/d0/d1/d0/d9/dV/dG/109VG_3.MP3' /><param name='quality' value='high' /><param name='menu' value='false' /><param name='bgcolor' value='#FFFFFF' /><param name='wmode' value='opaque' /></object></p></span> Haven't listened to it yet.
Sent a message to the team. Beat Utah and it's a 96.38 % chance we make the playoffs. That's got to rank right up there for motivational speeches with "Win one for the Gipper!" Daryl Morey may be the smartest guy in the room but sometimes he says the nerdiest things.
-Tough game last night. Thought the guys played hard and we've been playing hard. GOt behind early and didnt shoot well. Played uptempo pretty good. Unfortunate that we lost that game but we can bounce back Friday. -I was gonna be more upset [about Spurs sitting guys against the Jazz] but early in the season, they really didnt play those guys against us so it probably evens out. They're making the best choice for their franchise to win the title so its hard for me to be upset. I can understand fans being upset. -Great Lowry is back. Gives us a huge boost for the playoff push and into the playoffs. Getting him healthy and potentially getting Martin back, if we can be at full strength going into the playoffs and in the playoffs, we got a shot to knock someone off. Obviously we still have to make the playoffs. That's still job one. If we get there full strength, I think we got a shot to surprise someone. -We're still in solid shape. We gotta win games down the stretch. Yesterday would've gone a long ways in giving us good position to be there. Now we have to win more games rest of the way but we're playing well and have the ability to do that. There will be multiple important games down the stretch and if we win those, we can ice the playoffs and start preparing for the playoffs. -Playing both GD and KL is extraordinarily effective for us. Yesterday again that lineup was effective for us. I dont put a ton of stock into our D or O performance with Goran, without...you know there are always skews and schedule strengths and things like that. Both are good players. They well together, they play well separately. Gives a lot of options for Coach McHale to win games here. -We were always very high on Dragic. Giving up Aaron last year to get him. Similarly to Lin, Dragic has been a little better than even we thought. To his credit, he has worked hard and played incredibly well while Lowry was out. Always good to get good surprises and not bad. -I think so(on seeing a little Nash influence on Dragic). Goran has always played like he played. We saw him in Treviso a few years ago and watched him play as a young player. He's played like this, attacking the rim and ability to finish around the rim. The maturity of his game, keeping his dribble alive and a lot of that stuff, I do think, even he said it, being mentored by Nash early in your career can't hurt. He is, really, the greatest offensive PG of all-time. He's been the PG on I think more than half of the top offenses in NBA history. A pretty good guy to learn from. -Camby has been fantastic. What we hoped to get when we acquired him. Shored up the middle. Rebounding has been one of our challenges and he shored that up as well. He's gonna be critical down the stretch. I dont think we go 4-0 on that road trip w/o Camby, for sure not. -Road trip looked daunting. We were almost hoping to survive that and the come home and win our home games against Utah and Phoenix and hopefully we'd be in good shape going forward. Going 4-0 gave us a little bit of a buffer so we could lose a game like yesterday and still clinch this thing by winning games down the stretch. Obviously a win last night would've been best but we put ourselves in a good position. If we take care Friday and win some games that on paper look like we should win, down the stretch we'll be in good shape to make the playoffs. -Frustrating thing for Kevin Martin. He's pushed himself to comeback and had a couple of setbacks. Still sore. Really dont have a timetable for that. If he comes back, his ability to score will be nice to have as an option for McHale. Integrating him will be a challenge and we'll have to figure that out but always better to have the option than not have someone available. -Thibodeau has the Bulls playing great again. Miami and CHicago are class of the East. It will be an exciting playoffs in the East with Boston playing well and some other teams that will make it interesting but I expect Chicago/Miami will be ECF and I couldn't predict who will win that. It will be a great series if they end up facing each other.
I don't think that 96% chance of making the playoffs was just something he noted on Twitter. I don't think it was a motivational speech.
He made the tweet to sell tickets to fill up the arena for an important home game. I am pretty sure the players on the team already knew the importance of the game, if not the math.
Daryl Morey--always the voice of reason. Giving a hopeful picture of this 8-game stretch to end the regular season. Thanks for the recap, hsf09
Would you really roll your eyes if you were presented with more information? Especially if that info was showing you how close your goal is if you can knock off this one major opponent that is directly in front of you? Using it to sell tickets is a joke lol, but if I am working hard for something then I want to know how close I am to it. That's just me...
I would roll my eyes if he said we were 96.38% likely to make the playoffs, yes... the % is what makes it funny and eye roll worthy. DD
I guess I'm at least a partial geek. If someone walked into the locker room and said, "Win this game tonight and we are in the playoffs -95% odds", it would have a positive impact on me.
Maybe it's just me, but isn't the whole inspiration thing Kevin McHale's job as opposed to Morey's? I mean, when's the last time the Lakers looked to Kupchak for inspiration as opposed to when possessed the greatest coach ever?
It was just a Tweet, and I seriously doubt the players got a memo from Daryl about their percentages if they win a certain game. Im sure the players didnt roll their eyes because the exchange probably never happened, and if it did it was in comical fashion. No argument here about Daryl and personality skills please. Lets not go there.
What, you don't think Kupchak inspired the Lakers enough by essentially trading away Lamar Odom and Derek Fisher in exchange for Jordan Hill??? (In fairness to Kupchak, those moves have the fingerprints of Jim "All About the Bottom Line" Buss all over them. I think Kupchak's miserable working for that scumbag.)
