People are dumb with money. Every one of you guys who is piling on the frivolous spending...can you honestly say that you don't do the same? Is your car paid off? Your house? Any other debt while you play video games on your huge TVs? Consumerism is a religion in America. Is it any surprise that a young uneducated kid who listens to rappers who drive 100k+ cars and live in shacks thinks that it's the way you should live your life? Look in the mirror before you start talking crap. It could be you next and it's a small world.

Not everyone spends money frivolously, not when it's beyond one's means. I'm very cautious with my money and pay off my credit card every month.

CF Cyberpolice here. FYI, if his name really is David Hoang he doesn't have any criminal records in Harris County.

Agreed 100%. Not everyone, and good on you for being responsible. But most people do. That doesn't mean that you can't overextend yourself and get into trouble. Just because you blew your money on stupid crap doesn't mean you don't deserve help.

I hope the guy takes a lesson from all of this: Be responsible, don't take crap for granted and there are good people in the world.

I'm just having fun with the situation. I believe the guy and hope he can find work. Hopefully he can suck it up and take a crummy job, maybe not one he likes, but whatever job he can get. If you're reading this houstinnin713, it's easier to get a job when you already have one. So if you have to flip burgers for a few months, do it.

Yeah, I agree - But only if it's not repeated behavior.

Regardless, I hope so too & the big hearts on CFs never cease to amaze me!

A lesson to EVERYONE - Take your own privacy seriously. ;)

Xero speaks the truth, not defending the kid but in today's economy your life can go to **** in a second. & then you might not be asking an internet board for money rather then people you know personally, which might be worse.

A lot of people here are quick to judge, life is not a joke. **** can hit the fan real quick, so it's better to be a person that's willing to give or help instead of a smartass prick.

It's not like anyone was hacking his computer or anything. Everything posted in this thread was already on the internet for everyone to see.

If you want to keep your life private, don't join 30 different internet social networks.

The problem is that there are plenty of worthy causes (e.g. Red Cross) that need financial help. For every dollar folks give to scammers or irresponsible people looking for a quick fix, that is one less dollar that could go to deserving charities or people that are down on their luck through no fault of their own.

True, but it is mean spirited. But whatever...that's the risk you take when you have so much out there on the internet.

I have a facebook account...but its private. Just bc youre on social network sites doesnt mean that its all public info. I have plenty of friends that are on FB, Twitter, etc...but their stuff is private unless you are friends with them. He had his settings on public, which is fine...but when people start taking pictures and posting them in an effort to make fun of the situation, there is nothing wrong with him making things private so that the problem doesnt perpetuate.

So yes, its true that those pics were up before...but there is a difference between having pics up for people to see and having people take those same pictures and creating a joke out of them.

That's true (see my sig). In this case, I gave to an individual. And I don't want to go all macroeconomic here, but a dollar to the RC is not a dollar straight to the people involved.

+1 on this. But it's part of the attention-gathering society we live in, where looook attttt meeeee is encouraged. Social networks are horrible for society in general. People need to look inside and improve themselves to have true happiness. But that's another thread.

My point is, if someone annually budgets $1000 for charitable causes and ends up giving $100 to ne'er-do-wells, that means that they will only give $900 to worthy organizations, so the scammers or irresponsible people cost a worthwhile organization $100 from that donor.
