Dont get me wrong, I respect the man but looking at his stats I am severely underwhelmed. A career 18 ppg scorer. For a PG his assists are horribly low at 4APG a game. Decent FG% Stellar FT% Terribad 3pt% High steals rate 1 time NBA all star 0 Rings. So what was it that tipped him in to the NBA HOF? I am not trying to degrade the mans legacy, I just saw such a hooplah raised over Reggie Miller I thought I would get some insight as to what made him an HOF worthy player...since I am not 50+ I never got to see the man play.
Big misconseption. Calvin was a 2 guard not a point guard. He did play some at the point but that was not his position.
BASKETBALL Hall of Fame, not just NBA Hall of Fame. Murph was a stupendous college scorer. 38 points a game in one year, 3 time All American. I think he does NOT belong. He's in the bottom 10 least qualified for the Hall. But he was a famous little man scorer. And he put himself on TV just enough. Back then they had the NBA Legends game, the old timers game during All Star weekend. I remember Murphy was a leading scorer and added legitimacy to his "legend". Also 3 point percentages in that era are very misleading cuz they just didnt care that much.

Keep in mind too, that basketball was different back then and stats weren't quite the same as they are now.
If that's good enough criteria to qualify, then we've got a future HOFamer on the team right now (how many players under 5'5 were better than Earl Boykins?)
College, not only were his stats insane, but he was dueling with Pete Maravich for the NCAA scoring title that year There was only 1, and he was.
I think the Murph also has to get credit for his on the court fighting prowess. Yao's dirty stash and all the other kiddos who are not steeped in the awesomeness of Calvin Murphy should check this out: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=1899492&postcount=8
