Yes rockbox, I can see how Mark Eaton got the best of Hakeem...owned compleaty. Mark Eaton absolutely brutalised The Dream judging by the head to head stats, great observation.
of course there is...it just doesn't feel like it. i don't feel like i could stop caring about the Rockets. they're just part of me. but that doesn't mean i am forced to agree with every decision the franchise or its representatives on or off the court makes.
Not sure how much you got to see of it, because I don't know how old you are...but there was absolutely a period of time in Hakeem's career where he was frustrated by Mark Eaton. Eaton was a pain in the ass to the Rockets.
Carl, I believe the reasoning here is to present Orlando with a deal that says If we can make a deal before the start of the 2012/13 season our offer will be the much better than the one we will be willing to give at the trading deadline. It makes sense from both sides to present a deal on draft day if possible. A full season in Houston would make giving up a large amount of assets and draft picks worth it to Morey. Plus it gives them a chance to put together a better surrounding roster around Howard and Market him before the season to sell tickets. Something the Rockets desperately need to do. I wouldnt be shocked if Morey and Otis Smith are already having preliminary talk, but Im sure they are waiting to see what the Rockets draft pick situation will be like before draft day. That being said, I have some serious hatred for Dwight, and do not want him on my team. That guy is a douche.
If you look at the stats, there are two games that support your assertion. November, 27, 1987 and April 14, 1989. Maybe also January 18, 1992. Looks like Hakeem absolutely dominated the matchup in all other 37 games.
What do you think about his antics toward SVG? Did you see the video yesterday where he did butt into SVG's talk with the journalists in a patronizing manner and was caught lying? Howard would be my no. 1 target, but that was hard to watch.
To be fair, Yao at his peak was almost as good as Duncan. But it only lasted about half a season. I believe it was 2007. He averaged something like 25/10 then went down with injury. I know you hated how Yao's injuries ruined the Rockets' progress to be a contender. But that dude could have been equally considered the top centers with Howard had he been more healthy.
I'm not sure about the stats...but I can tell you growing up here with other Rockets fans that our perception of Eaton was that he was a pain in the ass for Hakeem. Still to this day, if you say Mark Eaton to Rockets fans who watched that era of basketball you get a nearly universal reaction in that regard. He was a big center who won defensive player of the year twice in his career...and we played him regularly in division.
that what if is way too big to take the proposition seriously. his career was defined by injury, sadly. to be successful in athletics and be mentioned in the same breath with HOF legends like Duncan and Shaq requires that you be able to play.
he looked childish. i think most of these guys...particularly the guys like howard and lebron who have been idolized since they were pre-teens...are just flat out divas. i read "jordan rules" and couldn't stand the guy. but apparently those guys also win a lot. he would still be my number 1 target as well..and i agree entirely, it was painful to watch.
Yao wasn't that bad.... Never had the stats for an entire season... but he dominated Howard and held his own against a 30 yr old Shaq... that was formidable given his butterfingers and lack of athleticism. He made up for it with skills and intelligence. I don't see why I can't put him next to Duncan or Shaq, sure he wasn't successful or as good as those two were but his size, his offensive play, sometimes Defense remind me of those guys.
Howard is going to lose his athleticism one day and it's not going to be pretty. He is not that skilled and he is not as dominant as Shaq was with his ass dropping down.

You have a point here. However, he is the most dominant today and will likely be for the next 5 years. If Anthony Davis is everything he is cracked up to be, it's going to take him at least 5 years to reach Dwight physically. So, in the meantime, Dwight is the man.
Max, I think you are confusing how much a player accomplished and how good he was. True, no one would mention Sampson's career accomplishment with Duncan's or Shaq's. But people routinely mentioned Sampson as one of the best big men in basketball history.
