Most superstars are a cancer. The only question is whether they make up for it by winning you championships.
Awesome DH came into the league at age 18 in 2005. Yao Ming was 22 as a rookie with pro experience overseas...and by the time DH came into the league, was 25 years old and in his fourth season. I'm not real concerned with their head to head when discerning who was the better player when playing at his best. And assuming DH is able to stay relatively healthy (he's played every game in a season in 6 of his 8 seasons so far), the body of work for him is going to far surpass what Yao was able to do simply because of health. I believe Dwight at his best is better than Yao at his best....and I'm not sure we've seen Dwight's career best just yet. But my point was as much about someone grouping Yao with Shaq and Duncan...as if he were in that class of postman. I can't imagine anyone outside of a Rockets messageboard or China suggesting that.
Come on Jackie. Eaton got the best of Dream but it doesn't he was better. Howard went to the finals with hedo , shard, and rafer
That's a false choice. There are more options than just drinking the Kool-Aid or giving up on the team completely.
Based on that logic, Shaq should have completely destroyed Yao because Shaq was in the league for 10 years when Yao arrived, he was in his prime, had just turned 30 and had been killing everyone. Right? http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/h2h_finder.cgi?request=1&p1=onealsh01&p2=mingya01 Strangely, I don't see the same dominance of Shaq over Yao there as with Yao over Dwight .
That logic was addressing head to head matchup only...which I said I wasn't that interested in to begin with. Nice cherry picking.
ATW, please don't be this guy. Please don't be the internet warrior trying to score points with Jim Rome style victories. You're way too smart for that.
Spoiler You tried to make it seem like Howard is incredibly superior to Yao, and you were belittling people for even putting Yao in the same category as Howard. I posted facts to show that nobody needs to be belittled in a condescending manner - as you did - for mentioning Yao in the same breath as Howard. You tried to dispute that by pointing out that Howard was younger and less experienced when they had their head-to-head matchups. I debunked that argument by showing Yao's stats vs. Shaq. That's all. No big deal, and no reason to go all melodramatic. Yes, it can certainly be argued that Howard is better than Yao. And most likely Howard will have a better career than Yao, due to injuries, if nothing else. But one doesn't need to ridicule people on a Rockets message board for thinking Yao is better than Howard.
I never belittled anyone, ATW. I said I thought that only on a Rockets messageboard would someone suggest that Yao was in the same class as Shaq or Duncan. I disagreed with that opinion, and I never called the guy out personally. It's possible to disagree with an opinion without belittling someone. I never ridiculed him or anyone else. I personally believe the best of DH is better than the best of Yao...and I say that believing entirely that I still haven't seen the best of DH's career yet. I said very specifically that head to head matchup didn't really interest me given the difference of where those players were in their careers when they matched up. You can absolutely disagree with my opinion...and I'm totally good with that. But the whole, "I accept your unconditional surrender" is very hopefully out of character for you because it made you sound like a tremendous douchebag...which I'm quite sure you're not.
But I am . And I still accept your unconditional surrender. I understand nobody likes to be proven wrong with facts, like you just did, so now you are trying to play the "you are better than that" card. You were most certainly belittling the poster who said he thinks Yao is better than Howard. Don't try to act like you did not.
I believe our pursuit of Dwight Howard will end this offseason. The only way we are willing to trade for Howard without an agreed to extension is with the opportunity to win him over by showing him we have acquired another superstar (Paul or DWIll) or we have the plan in place to acquire the other superstar through cap space free agent signing or through trade. If we somehow get a commitment from DWill this summer, then the push for Dwight is still on. If we miss on DWill, the only way we trade for Dwight is with him committed to sign an extension. And even then, that would be very, very iffy, given his propensity to change his mind and not be credible. Dwight is best playing the game and not playing politics. Too bad he doesn't understand this yet.
There's always a choice, Max. ALWAYS. To this day I know I can walk away if I want to. True, we can disagree with the team's movements but Raven clearly went to the depths of depression to make what point? That he's keeping it real? Sometimes its so damn depressing coming in here.....
I really wanted to get Howard, but after him showing his true colors yesterday and SVG exposing him for what he is, it will be very hard to root for him...at least initially. Since I'm a selfish fan who wants the Rockets to win, I would still be excited if we get him.
