I like to busy myself with fanciful stories about alien encounters, the vast majority of which are obviously plot-hole ridden fantasies, but there remain some stories that are more compelling than the rest. For this reason I decided to make this thread to test the waters of CF. Do you believe that extraterrestrials exist? Do you believe that they have attempted to make contact with humanity? Do you believe that there may or may not be physical evidence of their contact here on Earth? I, a. Believe they exist, b. Believe it's very possible they have attempted to contact humanity, but it is more implausible than likely, and c. Do not believe that there is any physical evidence of extraterrestrials on Earth. What do you guys think in general about aliens? Does anyone other than ToyCen share this fascination of extraterrestrials with me?
We live in just one out of a billion galaxies. Aliens exist. Even if they are very very very far away and we will not contact them in this lifetime
They exist without a doubt. The idea that we are the only life in the entire universe just saddens me.
Many intelligent people have posited that aliens are likely to exist, claiming that it's even a statistical likelihood. The variables that go into creating an entire species may be ridiculously remote, but considering how vast the universe is, the chances aren't so bad.
For organisms to arise seems to require such a confluence of chemical reactions over billions of years in a very narrow atmospheric window that it's completely reasonable to assume that they don't exist anywhere else.

Even if we assume that lifeforms can only arise from similar factors that resulted in life on Earth, the universe is so large that it's likely to have happened elsewhere. And there's no reason to think vastly different type of lifeforms could arise through other factors that we don't know of. As for whether or not they've made contact, it's none of my concern unless I actually know about it. There really may be aliens behind the scene making puppets of world leaders, but as long as I don't know about it, it doesn't affect my life either way. In this sense it's similar to how I feel about God. Existence doesn't matter as much as how such existence may affect my life.
Well I don't think they have arrived here but...it has happened on earth many many times. NOT only that there have been many cases of life thriving in what we consider extreme conditions. Now as for have they contacted us...well this man makes a good point... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/1uah1X9WDNA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Life may very well be extremely rare, but then again it may not be. We have scanned only a tiny portion of our horizons - to the point of insignificance, really. Granted that there are something like 800,000,000,000,000,000,000,000* planets in the universe, I can't help but think there's life on at least two of them. [*I arrived at the estimate based on 4 trillion planets in our own galaxy, multiplied by a rough estimate of 200 billion total galaxies. It goes without saying that we don't know for sure.]
