Beautiful song. Love the Jon Anderson vocals on the first movement, and the oboe solo during Bolero.

Does Wagner's Ring count as one song?

Book: Not picky. Ronald Suny, Henry Kissinger, or any proper academic work on the Great War's Eastern Front will do.

    Movie: Don't care.

Yup, its great. I like it because when I play it for people that have never heard it and they're waiting for it to finish, they freak out when i tell them its 23 minutes long. I also really love the trumpet part.

Care to expand on that? Seems like an off-the-wall choice...The Austrians were weak, the Russians were weak...pretty weak front. Unless you're referring to another war other than WWI as The Great War.

Who said "collections." Compilations are single-purchase items sold on DVD at online stores. You obviously don't know your p*rn. I just wasn't going to NSFW the title of the one I'd take with me.

For books, I change my mind

Book: Dancing with the Bear -- A Serial Entrepreneur Goes East
    [IMG]

Why? Because it is encrusted with 600 diamonds and priced at $5m. I need something for trading with the natives.

And don't make some new rule about price tag Xerobull. :p

It's too bad that Fripp himself hates the album. Apparently it has never been done live, either, which is unfortunate.

I like Mark Charig's trumpet work as well. I also enjoy him in Fallen Angel and Islands. Great performances for sure.

I don't see why one's interest in a part of a war should be defined by strength. Certainly hasn't stopped people from going gaga over the Western front in the Second World War.

The Eastern Front is far more interesting and it's closer to an actual war compared to the giant trench mess in Northern France. Also as someone who deals with a lot of Russian history, its long-term complications are much more interesting. The Western Front is frankly pretty irrelevant in that regard, because the long-term consequences which SHOULD have happened from that front was utterly ****ed up by Versailles, and so the world had to do it all over again in 20 years.

This is very difficult but I guess that is the point.

Song: Vivaldi Four Seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter)

    Book: The Art of War

    Movie: V for Vendetta

That's a good point. I like the military aspect of wars so I tend to focus on the more active theaters. Come to think of it, my WWI class kind of ignored the Eastern front. And you're right- there were far more actual tactical movements and engagements in the East than in the West after the Race for the Sea in France. I'll have to re-examine the whole Eastern front in the future...

Thanks for getting my brain going on that one. :)

Song: Smiths, "How Soon Is Now?"
    Movie: The Third Man
    Book: Norton Shakespeare

Pulled a few all-nighters in the past week. Rather than cranking up my usual angry punk music (rebelling toothlessly on an empty floor of offices), I tried something new, and played "How Soon is Now?" on infinite loop. Must have heard it a few hundred times in a row this week.

It'd do: has the right blend of yearning, optimism and weariness that would do me well on an eternal island.

The others: definitely replayability/re-readability is a factor. For some reason, no matter how many times I've seen it, Welles stepping out into the light is always a surprise to me.

The Shakespeare is a cliche. So be it.
