I've noticed he has been making some amazing passes lately.

Some of them were things Miller and Hayes did on our team.

He deserves major love for the way he's been playing in this run, he's so dependable we take him for granted then complain when he is in a funk. Scola may not be an All-star but he is the next best thing in a team that lacks offensive firepower.

    Turnovers over that period: 24

Not exactly a great A to T ratio for a facilitator. 43 assist to 24 turnovers

I feel like that is the best possible role he could play. He is never going to be the go-to-low-post-guy in the 4th quarter of a playoff game. If he can make things happen this way, then he could become even more valuable shooting passes to cutters.

Are those turnovers based on his facilitating or overall?

2:1 is all you can expect from a non PG.

No one has those stats (Maybe a Pro team might break down each game and do it). The ratio used for PG is the same as well.

The statistical package you cite shows the leader in average assists per game for a PF to be Diaw, who generally is well known for his handles, at 4.0. The point of the post is that Scola has averaged 3.6 assists per game from the post over the past 12 games. His improvement passing the ball has been obvious to even the most casual observer. Citing his assist to turnover average doesn't discount this improvement because his turnovers have not increased during this period of improved passing. The poster's observation is a valid one.

Your numbers show that PFs who actually do a decent amount of passing could not achieve the above ratio. The best passing PF in recent years were Chris Webber and Kevin Garnett, both had a ~1.7:1 ratio at the peak of their careers. Former Rocket and great passer Barkley barely had more than a 1:1 ratio, while Hakeem had < 1:1 ratio.

I don't know if Scola's current numbers are sustainable, but I'm not sure how you can say a 2:1 ratio is nothing short of amazing.

From the eye-test, scola gets most of his turnovers from his iso-moves and not from bad passing. His post-up from ft line where Watson swiped it away comes to mind.

Scola REALLY needs to learn the behind the back drop off that Hayes did all last season. I remember Webber and Barkley were two of the best.

Scola has been playing well and his knee was the issue in the beginning of the season. Now he is back to playing his game down low and has added bein the facilitator to his game. I am glad he was not traded and have been calling for Scola to be allowed end his career in H-Town.

Well said, not sure what REEKO_HTOWN tried to proof, but Scola has definitely up'd his ante on assists this past month..

my guess is that reeko has a prejudice against euro type basketball players or something against latin guys with long hair getting it done in the nba when every thing the nba is about is made to go against that kind of player yet scola still gets it done

I'd like to see Scola's "true assist" to turnover ratio. I know Morey's a fan of the "true assist" / hockey assist because it's really the more relevant stat.
