http://www.1560thegame.com/audio/ro...t-the-importance-of-making-the-playoffs-4478/ Among other things, he said CLee will be back next year since he is restricted.
Great to hear. I was wondering if he was going to position Lee's free agency in the same fashion as Lowry and Scola's. By coming out and saying they are going to match they should get a more favorable contract. Im not sure if that philosophy will ever backfire, but hey... good news for now.
Yeah. He said they want to bring him back, but of course its more up to Goran being unrestricted, but they are going to "give it their best shot."
The need to pay market price and match almost any offer for Dragic, even if it's a little on the high side. We're not going to get any top notch FAs to come here. Use Lowry, KMart, Scola + draft picks to upgrade other positions.
He said Lowry has a chance to get back with the team this year. That's the best news I have heard about Lowry yet. He said Kyle is about to ramp things up again and ing any setbacks he will be back. Great news He said Martin coming back is harder forecast. He looks good and then twist it again so no way to know when he is coming back.
Yeah, I don't see how that philosophy can really "backfire", so to speak. The worst case scenario is that Lee gets a ludicrous offer from another team that the Rockets simply elect not to match. Even then, I wouldn't call it "backfiring" so much as the Rockets re-evaluating their prior position. Yeah, I'm afraid I have to agree with you here. As much as I'd love to keep Goran, he's quickly pricing himself out of the "reasonable salary range" this Rockets management team is likely willing to pay. Although, as others have intimated, there's still a chance that Gogi could continue to play SO well that the team re-evaluates and views him as a cornerstone player worth spending much more money on in free agency. I don't think he's there yet . . . but it's possible his performance could get him there soon.
The Backfire would only come on Clutchfans when the threads start up with the "Morey Lies!!!" nonsense.
Bima, I'm torn. I'm a big-time Kyle Lowry fan but Goran is growing on me fast. He's bigger, just as fearless, and more athletic (Kyle is stronger). Damn I wish we could keep both. No matter what happens, the team could easily justify their decision.
I agree about his price going up every game. But I also think he wants to be here more than any place else. And unlike many players in this league, it's not just about the dollars for him. Still he won't be cheap but I think we can have him for less than anyone else. And IMO you have to sign him even if you overpay a bit. He is a solid young player who knows how to score, play d and run an offense and that is a rare combination in this league and that makes him a keeper. Besides he is a valuable ASSET that can be used in a trade later. As far as the rest of the Morey interview I thought it went pretty good. He explained his point that we will never be bad enough to get a franchise player like a ANthony Davis and we have shown an ability to find quality players in the 14 through 40 or 50 range. And he he said he doesn't see the big difference in finding quality in that range. So if we are not going to be bad and we know we can find good quality players in the middle draft positions then why not go for the playoffs. Makes perfect sense to me. He is much better at drafting than when he came in. Which is why I want him to have 3 draft picks this offseason. He already said this is a much better draft and deeper draft this year. And we are going to have 0-3 draft picks this summer plus Les always is willing to buy more. The more I listen and understand Morey the more I like him. And I do think he learns from his mistakes. And he has some issues in communicating to the players on a personal level (my opinion). But overall he seems to want to be better on that level too. ANd very few are smarter than him. I am excited about what he does in the off season.
Goran can def. play the SG spot off the bench in a Manu Ginobilli fashion. I wouldnt rule out the possibilty of both "working on the court" together. The only issue is depth with Marin/Lee/Dragic/Lowry, and getting enough minutes out of Goran to make the move worthwhile and not just getting backup minutes out of him. Someone out of the 4 really needs to be moved for it to work.
That would be an ideal scenario, and what I've hoped for all along. But I quickly see Goran pricing himself out of the Rockets' range too. Especially if no suitable trading partner for Kyle or Kevin steps up.
I wouldn't mind that, but you have to have Goran buy in. But of the four, I think Martin gets moved this off season.
A chance to keep Dragic is getting low each game. I think other teams will spend more money than that the rockets is willing to pay for it, he could get 10 M/per year based on his current performance.
LOL. Trust me, Goran won't be making $10 million per. The salary cap and penalties are harsh enough to sway people away form overpaying for point guards.
Personally IMO I would move KMart for peanuts if that's what it took to keep Goran. He is playing like a cornerstone player with out a doubt.
I keep telling people 10 mil starts the bidding. It's a supply and demand thing. too many teams with cap space and too few stars to receive it. My biggest concern is Portland. Their owner has billions and doesn't mind spending it. I am sure Dragic is on their list of players they want. Mr. Allen could offer near max money and end the bidding war fast.
