I watch all Kansas games every year and the strides withy has made since the start of the season are incredible. That said at best he is a very good 25 min a night rotation back up center kinda like dalembear(spelling?) who can dunk the ball is a ok rebounder and a very good shot blocker. He will def be picked in the 2nd round and is worthy of the live he's getting right now. I dnt think anyone thinks he's a first round talent but as a 2nd round pick he has great value.
He is not like Brook Lopez. He is closer to Camby and Tyson Chandler. Of course he doesn't have there athleticism but he shoots better than them too. His best skill is shotblocking. His offense is average but his defense is above average and his shot blocking is great. To put it in perspective... "DraftExpress: Jeff Withey blocks 15.14% of the shots taken while he's on the court, according to @kenpomeroy. Davis blocks 13.95%." He is the best shotblocker in the NCAA but unlike some other good shotblockers he has stepped it up with the competition. The fact that he didn't get as many minutes in the regular season may be why he is not showing up higher on the mock drafts (plus most of them don't know what they are talking about). But he is definitely playing better in the post season and getting more minutes. I am not sure if I would draft him in the 1st but if he is still around in the second I would definitely check out what the cost of an early second pick is.
Withey is currently in the undrafted range. Chances of him getting to the 1st round are slim. Plus, he may not even come out this year.
Withey is a center, he will probably wait until next year to enter his name. He's an okay player, mostly a rebounding/shotblocking specialist.
Withey needs to come back for his senior season and develop an offensive game. Once he has some more 'sand in his pants' he could develop into a defensive presence at the next level. If he stays in college next year he could be worthy of a mid first round pick assuming he develops his game on the offense. He had a three game span this year in conference play: 25/5/3, 18/20/7, and 18/11/9 against Baylor, Oklahoma St, and K State respectively. Including a sequence against Ok st where he blocked a shot, dove out of bounds to save the ball, ran to the post demanding the entry pass, throwing a 'Yao-esque' over the shoulder no look pass for a dunk as the double team approached. The young man is a basketball player!
Withey is a developing post player. He just started to emerge mid way through this season. He sat behind Cole Aldrich, the Morris Twins, and T-Rob for 2 years. He's not an elite talent that you build a franchise around, but he's a solid NBA talent. He needs to put on another 20lbs or so, but he moves well for his size. He is similar to Aldrich but Withey is more fluid and has a better offensive game. Aldrich was a better rebounder though. Withey should go in the 14-20 range next year. He isn't coming out this year. Next year is where he earns his money because he becomes the next big man at KU. That's why T-Rob came back when he was a first round lock and potential lottery pick last year. Now, he's a top 3 guy. Withey would be first round in 2012, but by coming back, he's developing his body and game for that second contract.
Sorry, but this game is a joke. No calls, sloppy offense...unreal. This just shows me why I don't watch college sports
Hey they made a run. And Whitey is the real deal. Davis goes 19-31 the previous games and 1-10 tonight. Withey made him look bad offensively. How many players can do that. Withey needs to add a few pounds but if he comes out I definitely take a look at him if we have Dallas pick.
With his play imo he will sneak into the draft like that white dude that the Knicks picked last year in the 2nd round.
Come on, old school. You know Withey, who is currently ranked in the low 2nd, will not catapult all the way to a 20th something 1st round pick. He has been playing this way the entire season.
Withey's coming back, he would be a fool to come out this year and be relegated to the dustbin of the D-League. He is a fringe NBA player right now, another year of top level college competition could make him a late first rounder next year...and potential 12-18 mpg center in the league.
