The Wolves are pretty stacked with talent. They are far more talented than the Rockets even with Rubio out.
I’ve watched about 70% of Wolves games this season and you’re completely wrong here. Love's supporting cast is NOT good. Derrick Williams is a completely unimpressive rookie; people just think he’s good because he was the second pick. Rubio and Pekovic are the only other guys that are even starting caliber NBA players…and they’re both injured. Like it was said earlier in this thread, the fact that Love keeps that team competitive almost every night is a testament to how good he is.
I don't agree, the Wolves have talent. Whether they can put that talent together is a different story.
Yeah, I don’t consider Wes Johnson, Randolph, or Beasley examples of how the Wolves are stacked with talent. Being drafted high doesn't mean anything when you're a bust. Trust me, if Love had the Rockets' supporting cast, he'd have his team firmly rooted in the playoffs.
If anything Kevin Love is underrated. How can you deny 26 ppg and 14 rpg? People who say his percentages are just haters. He shoots the same percentages that many other star players shoot. He's a great player and should easily be considered a top 5 Player in the league this season.
Outside of Barea and Ridnour, nobody has had more than 3-4 years of playing experience in their playing rotation. Minnesota has some potentially very talented players, but they won't be good until they have more time under their belt (Beasley, Dwill, Rubio, Randolph, Pekovic...). I think you're mistaken for potentially talented players with actual production. And Adelman is a coach who gets the most out of his players. And I've never heard of anyone referring to the Wolves as "stacked with talent." That's reserved for the Heat/Thunder/Knicks... Similar case with Washington: a ton of young talent, but needs more discipline and grooming.
Those guys have "potential." But as we know, not every player reaches their potential. We're still waiting on Randolph to reach the outer layer of his potential STILL. And he has A TON of potential.
You completely miscomprehended what I said. Obviously if talent is underutilized it wouldn't appear on production.. The Wolves are similar to the Kings, they have a ton of talent not put together. Rubio, Beasley, Barea, Pekovic, Ridnour are all solid players that are already contributing. Then you have underutilized talent like Williams, Randolph. The Wolves are talented
Pekovic is already good. Rubio is already good, but he does still have a lot to work on -- he's not as good as Lowry or Dragic are yet. I personally don't see much hope for Randolph and Beasley no matter how much Adelman tries to work with them. DWill is a question mark, but I'm really underwhelmed by him so far. He looks lost all the time and not very skilled at all. And according to the Synergy stats he's a bottom 15% defender in the league. The Wolves better hope they get Utah's pick this season so they can draft a wing. They literally have the worst wing rotation in the league.
The Wolves are overachieving. Everyone thought they would suck again this year, but they're playoff contenders. This team has the "potential" to be great IF Love/Rubio/Dwill all develop like they should and tap that "talent." Dwill is a rookie. Sometimes, talented rookies can take up 3 years before you give up on them (like Anthony Randolph). Look at Evan Turner. He's still up and down, and he's in his 2nd year. Rubio is still WAY too raw. You can't shoot 35.7% and expect to impact a full game consistently. But he has a ton of potential, moreso than I thought. Overall, they have a very bright future. No one thought they would be in the position they are now when the season started. It all depends on whether these guys put in work in the offseason to utilize all of their talent.
I'd rather have Chandler parsons over d-will. The wolves would too. Like redhotrox says, dwill sucks right now. No handles, an undersized tweener player. b-easy is a headcase that doesn't play all of the time. pec is good, but he is injured, and rubio is special but injured. Barea is also a good injured player. Luckr is average at best. The talent level everybody thinks the wolves have is a mirage.
Exactly. This is like saying the Rockets were stacked with talent when they had T-Will and Jordan Hill. Those guys "potential" doesn't mean anything because the chance that they would put it all together and live up to it was so low. The Wolves are stacked with those kinds of “talents” but there’s really not much hope for most of them. The jury is still out on D-Will because this is only his rookie year, but like I have said, he's really doing nothing to help Love right now.
I just think that he is a bad fit in minny. Minny needs a Rudy Gay, Paul George type of sf. Derrick really wants the ball on the block, because he has no ability to create his own shot. Still, I like the core. Rubio/ Barea (awesome combo) Kevin Love Pec They need to find a creator at the 2 or 3 spot. Then they need to add some defense, rebounders. The most important spots however are filled.
Everyone would rather have Parsons over D-Will because Parsons is playing himself way deep into lottery territory. He sucks right now for sure, but that honestly doesn't say anything about a rookie who is playing behind two players. It doesn't matter if they are injured, that's not what I'm debating. I'm arguing that the Wolves are very talented, because a lot of their players have demonstrated the ability to play at a high level. How do you conclude that Williams wouldn't be able to put it together? It's only his first year and he is playing behind two players.
