You don't have to show a cop ID unless you're operating a motor vehicle or are under investigation, that's how I understand it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqMjMPlXzdA Go to 26 minute mark.
This is ridiculous. I hate to judge all police officers based off of bad run ins, but when I see things like this combined with the experiences I've had it's really hard not to. This guy should not be allowed to enforce the law.
Seems like a lot of cops have emotional problems. That was such a simple situation and his immediate reaction was to freak out. Arrrrghhh I got a tazer, respect my authoritah
I'm glad you brought this up. Here is the section of the law that shows you they didn't have to produce ID. These men were not arrested and its questionable if they were technically detained at that point too. The cop initiated the offenses in this situation and he can have fun in court with this video that shows they complied when they were detained and that they did not touch him.
(a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally refuses to give his name, residence address, or date of birth to a peace officer who has lawfully arrested the person and requested the information.
So when a cop approaches you after you do something he told you not to and asks for ID you are being detained. If you just run away you agree that is illegal right? There aren't exactly clear cut lines between being detained and being arrested when you are in the situation. And Miranda rights don't apply to ID.
Was that a Police Officer or a Security Guard? The cop was a jack ass and pulling the taiser at that point was uncalled for as was grabbing for the guys camera. The cop needs some serious training on how to deal with people for sure. I never saw the guy actually grab at the cop put he did put his hand up to fend off the cop. Having said that, if it was a police officer asking for ID the two guys just should have cooperated. One of the chief reasons situations like that get escalated into a very ugly seen is because the person refuses to cooperate with the police officer. If it were just a security guard I would likely have told him to get bent and left the property. I would have then called the manager and let him know that some asswhole guard is costing the store business. If the jack ass would have taised me in my back while I was walking away it would have been very bad for the security guard or what ever he is.
If you want to live in a country that mandates you carry ID and have to give it cops even if they ask you for no good reason, move to France, you freedom hating socialist. Seriously though, I love cops and have cop friends, but some are dickheads. Know your rights because they don't always do.
Yeah, stupid kid!! Seriously? Yeah, the kid is the dumbass, not the cop who's pulling out a taser simply because a guy won't put his phone away.
Ok tell me why he has his camera out in front of wal-mart recording at night? Would a normal human being do that? Uhhh no... that dumbass has nothing else better to do?
How the hell am I supposed to know? The guy says "the reason I'm recording is 'cause the carts" and is cut off by the cop asking for ID. The camera was facing the parking lot at the time. People record random stuff all the time, does that make them a dumbass? You make me laugh sir. Yes, the kid is a dumbass, not the cop for pulling a fkn TASER out for someone refusing to show ID. SMDH
