Just because Dwight opted in doesn't mean he won't be traded

Still thinking about Dwight and DWill and their ultimate destinations. Been watching Orlando play. All the hype has past regarding the trade deadline. And they're just playing. But it's the same team doing the same stuff. Looking decent to good one night and then losing by 40 the next.

So, I am going to speculate on this coming offseason a little bit.

DWill is an UFA. He's most like going to sign in Dallas if something else doesn't happen.

So, if Orlando sleep walks through these playoffs and gets put down hard by Miami or Chicago, then the same old dissatisifaction will probably arise from Dwight.

I'm still thinking Morey can be predatory here. Morey could recruit DWill and talk to Otis at the same time about Dwight walking away to Dallas for nothing or to NJ for nothing. Thing is if Morey can convince DWill to come here with the idea of getting Dwight to accept a trade here then he does have some leverage to approach Otis about trading for Dwight. Otis and Orlando will have the choice to play out an unhappy 2012-13 season with Dwight moving on for nothing or Otis and Orlando could get the finest haul they could possibly get for Dwight on draft night, using our talent, our picks, our current youngsters and Martin's and Dally's expiring contracts. They would know what they could get in the draft, etc. And it would be the offseason where Orlando could switch trains and rebuild their team without worrying about the ramifications of trading Dwight during the regular season and trading him West.

Basically, the same scenario as this season's trade deadline could re-emerge during the draft if Orlando stinks it up this post season.

    October 2013:
Deron Williams will be in a Mavs uniform
Dwight Howard will be in a Magic uniform

    Even Journey stopped believing.

I don't understand why you think tht they would want to join our team over dallas. Dallas is Dwill's hometown, has the most player freindly owner in the league who spends no matter what and gives them the best facilities etc and many players always circle mavs as a franchise. Otherwse they HAVE NJ and brooklyn with a new market, etc. Dwight didn't evne put us on a list, except did mention mavs too...I don't get where you get we have a shot over dallas

Didn't say they wanted to join our team over Dallas.

But they might settle for joining our team in time for next season to start instead of having to waste another year of their careers before they play on the same team. We can marry the desire sooner than Dallas and NJ can.

Morey being predatory huh? What is he going to use as bait? There will be teams offering a lot more than what the rockets can even come close to offering. The rockets would have to offer all the draft picks over the next 3 yrs off and on jus to even get in the conversation. They will also have to take hedo and probably another contract. Top that off, whatever orlando thinks is the rockets best talent. All of that, and he still probably leaves because the team isn't good enough to win a title. The only way howard gets to houston is after the rockets sign deron williams.

SVG and Nelson must go 1st. They need a Coach and PG who can get more out of Howard.

Gotta do something about Turkoglu. Baby Davis and Richardson need to go as well. Must keep Anderson.

I don't understand why most of you think DWill surely goes to Dallas.
Their max cap space for next summer would be $14M(cutting all of their unguaranteed contracts -Lamar Odom, Vince Carter, Brandan Wright and Sean Williams), and that's not enough to sign with a top PG in the league.
They still can amnesty Brendan Haywood or Shawn Marion though, in that case, their roster would be: Nowitzky, Marion/Haywood, Beaubois, Jones and cap space reaches around $22M.
DWill will cost around $17M, so $5M and MLE(would worse $2.5M) will be left for them. What can you do to improve your roster dramatically with only $7.5M?

I was shocked when Dwight wasn't traded to NJ. If Dwight was in NJ, Deron would stay there, thereby defeating the Deron-to-Mavs assumption - it's obviously not something written in stone. Remember the Lebron to NYC hype?

It's no secret that the Rockets tried to get Dwight at the deadline, and will try again this summer. If they are successful, and they create enough cap space to sign Deron through amnesty and trades, then Deron will come here.

I see no reason why the Rockets can't build a package for Dwight. The Lakers would've traded Gasol for Lowry and Scola. We'll probably have multiple 1st round picks to deal. We have expiring contracts, cheap young players, you name it. Trading for Dwight and signing Deron is not a pipe dream. I would argue that it's Morey's first option.

You forgot about Kidd and Terry's expiring contracts. Those are about 19mil together. They have more than enough room.

Teams won't offer more than the Rox unless they have Dwight's agreement to sign an extension. The only team that could probably get him to do that would be the Clippers if Paul signs an extension also. Clips would have to give up Deandre and Blake to beat what we could do for Orlando. And then really Dwight is calling the shots. He will decide whether he wants to play with Paul or Deron.

Deron is most likely going to Dallas or re-signing in NJ.....unless Morey gets involved and starts talking to both Deron's camp and Orlando about getting them both together for 2012-13. Then Deron's camp will listen and Dwight's camp, if Orlando fails this post season, could really put a push on Otis to move Dwight during the offseason.

Why do fans do themselves like this?? They continue to hold on, even when they know themselves that it is a long shot to even mention such a thing. Trust me, it is better to just let go. Let the healing start today.

I didn't. The Mavs' total salaries for this season are $74M, and $54M for next season, which is not counting Kidd and Terry's expiring contracts.

    Dirk.

That's one of the best combos in the league. Other pieces can be filled in (Miami model and same thing NJ is trying to do).

Lol, they basically played hack-a-Howard that series rotating in different bodies so nobody fouled out.

Does anyone else watch the Magic and get so pi**ed when they aren't throwing it down low enough, and they keep tossing up jumpers? It's like Ryan Anderson you're a nice shooter and all, but your shots come off the doubles that Dwight draws so give him the damn ball! (I'm not a Magic fan at all, I just appreciate good basketball.)

I believe SAS has this scooped accurately. I expect Dwight to demand to be traded and be very public about wanting out of Orlando after the season is over even if they fire SVG.

What three teams are going to offer more than us without an extension?
