Anytime you have a job that is underpaid and stressful, you're going to have a large amount of losers who do it.

You think all of these guys get up and go to work to serve and protect? Maybe some. A lot of others enjoy engaging you in a little game of simon says from time to time. And, if that doesn't work he'll taze your black ass.

If a cop asks/demands to see your ID, are you required to show it to him?

    I'm assuming he doesn't work security at a Wal-Mart.
    So there's that.

That whole law you quoted is centered around this..

When the "officer" demanded for their IDs, they were not being detained or arrested they were actually just being yelled at at taser point so this law does not apply.

When it comes to "non-traffic stop" situations there is no law on the books in Texas where you have to identify or provide ID while you are not under arrest.....until an arrest is made you have the legal right to keep that info to yourself.

That said their is one caveat in that if you do choose to identify yourself and you give false information you can then be charged with this law.

Also as I sorta alluded to above traffic stops are a completely different scenario when it comes to identification. In Texas if you are behind the wheel of a car and you are pulled over and asked for your ID in this scenario you must capitulate.

I don't.. probably because I never had to deal with them besides a few routine traffic stops.

My stance on cops softened considerably in my early 30's. I went from the angsty 'I hate pigs!' POV of my youth to the 'they're just doing their jobs' ideal. However, more recently they've become much more predatory giving multiple tickets due to budget cuts at every level. They're also being trained into a militarized force over the past few years. If you watch the news you will see how police forces are being trained as urban warfare squads as opposed to their traditional role as peacekeepers.

Make no mistake, cops see most people as guilty and unless you're a well-dressed older white male, you are being profiled.
