Do you agree with crash? I only see 1 vote (3%) for "victim was black"

Surely crash's "truth" is a popular choice.

Cute pictures but what is your explanation of the double standard?

The correct answer is not listed. If Zimmerman were black there would be little or no national attention. Do you disagree?

And yet for every black person killed by a white/Hispanic person, there are two whites killed by blacks. If there is a "war on blacks", as some Obamists have proclaimed, the whites aren't doing it very well.

That was my vote and I'll provide some explanation.

    If the victim was white:

    - Would Obama have spoken out on the issue?
    - Would Spike Lee have tweeted the alleged address of the shooter?
    - Would Bobby Rush wear a hoodie on the Chamber floor?
    - Would Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton make an appearance?
    - Would the Black Panther Party post an illegal bounty for the shooter?

I believe the answer to all of the above is "No". These events occurred because of the color of the victim's skin. I'm not bothered by the hype, other than the skin color angle is a distraction from the real crime (death of victim) and that it impedes the a fair trial for the shooter.

If there was no arrest of the shooter due to the same situation, I'm sure Martin's mother would go to the media. Now there may be no Al Sharpton/etc, but the Stand Your Ground Statute would still be under the microscope in the case.

What would you have done if you were Martin's parent and no charges were brought upon a shooter and you didn't believe his self defense story?

You seem to be dismayed by the sensationalism by the black community. Do you understand their distrust in authority? Do you know how it feels to be a minority? Have you experienced hate/racism in your own personal experiences?

I think you're answering the question yourself. The case is getting so much attention because of the black community, their distrust of authority, etc. If Trayvon Martin was a white kid this thread likely wouldn't even exist.

It's not Martins parents I have an issue with, what would expect no less from the parents of a young man who was killed.

What I find truely odd is that you are championing the cause of racism against Zimmerman but so eagerly discard race playing a role to societies reaction to white / Latino killings against young black men.

It's getting attention because the media picked it up. How often do black victims get thrown onto the mainstream news?

Why did the media pick it up? Because a family was waiting for answers as to why their son is dead. The Sanford PD wouldn't release the 911 tapes and no charges were being pressed. They didn't buy Zimmerman's story and wanted more answers.

If I was a parent, and my kid would shot... I would do everything that I possibly could to get some sort of justice or make the person who I believe killed him/her stand trial.

Where did I champion racism? My problem has always stood with the Stand Your Ground Statute along with an apparent racial bias by the Sanford PD.

Zimmerman did racial profile/stereotype Trayvon based on what he was wearing, but that doesn't make him a racist. He's still responsible for escalating a situation that was nothing to one that was deadly and should face the consequences by at least standing trial.

So this is not about justice it's about black people getting their day in the news? That's just ignorant. And why did the media pick it up? Yep I'm sure it had nothing to do with Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, Spike Lee etc....

I'm guessing you don't think the family of David James were upset that Trevor Dooley was walking around free for weeks while the police did their jobs?

You are the championing the cause of racism against Zimmerman in one thread while disregarding the possibility of race playing a role in the media attention and social reaction to the case in this thread. An inconvenient truth does not make it any less true.

No they aren't. Most are screaming about racism (either by Zimmerman or law enforcement). The Congressman in the hoodie could careless about the 'Stand Your Ground' law. Spike Lee doesn't care about the law. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson don't care about the law.

Nothing like some conservatives getting angry at black people when they see black people getting angry.

Oh the entertainment value is high.

Not angry at black people. That's where you are mistaken. Angry at people desperately trying to make the Treyvon Martin case about race.

    - Zimmerman only targeting black people (your claim by the way)
    - the police letting Zimmerman go free because he is white / latino

In the words of CL Bryant former leader of the NAACP "Al Sharpton and Jessy Jackson are race hustlers".
