For those of you that have not heard (and cared) Houston Baptist is planning on changing their name. The official stance is that they are exploring it, but from who I have talked to its not a matter of "if" but "when". This has been controversial to some extent in the HBU community, but the majority are for making a move. The name will be in place by the time the school joins the Southland next year. Weird. They're moving to the Southland Conference. It's not like it's the Big 12. Who cares if the name is regional?
I would rather they work on getting some night, weekend and online classes. I think naming it after someone would be a nice move as it would immediately place it as a private college; which is probably a nice niche to have. Not a big fan of the Christian thing as I think it unfortunately implies either degree-mill type fraud or excessive rules/conservatism, but if they really want to preserve that curricula and student body profile then it's probably okay. Maybe they could name it after some saint that is well regarded by Baptists.
AFAIK, Baptists don't refer to saints the same way Catholics, Anglicans, Methodists, and Lutherans do. A quick search shows that there are almost 50 Baptist colleges and universities in the US and that none use a St. ________ as their name.
"...but just as quickly as he thought of it, Rajesh realized he had to convince Fulgencio and Antawn to first suggest 'Hispanics and Blacks University'."
I just glanced at this when scrolling down on the forums and I thought it said Houston Rapist to Change Name lol
