    Two of the best characters!!

    Tyrion
    Varys
    and
    Little Finger

are three of the more interesting characters
Varys and Little Finger are the ultimate manipulators
    and powers behind the thrones

I liked Ned at first but he proved to be one giant let down and turned into his own worst enemy. I liked Robert a lot but it was clear to me early on that he was not going to make it out of the 1st season. The only time I did not like Robert was when he allowed Cersie to order Lady killed. My favorites are:

    John Snow
    Arya
    Danny
    Tyrion

    WTF HBO?

Can't believe they aren't airing Game of Thrones today... cruelest April Fool's joke ever.

Probably a stupid question. Is it possible to get HBO Go without getting HBO? I stopped doing cable a while back and would prefer to not have to watch the show illegally

For those with Uverse, I just called and got a 3 month HBO promotion. Doesn't hurt to ask (called Tech Support...1-800-288-2020).

How good is this series and should I start watching it? Is it similar to any other TV series?

    Pretty damn good.

If political intrigue, double dealing and adult themes in a medieval type setting are your thing you should give it a try.

The author of the books sure makes it hard to guess what will happen next and the story is the star.....there is no real hero. That DOESN'T mean there aren't fascinating characters though.

Lastly, its HBO quality so you are getting movie quality sets, art direction, settings and writing.

As far as similar stories?....not really as it is fictional rather than historical a la Spartacus.

It's a medieval fantasy HBO show. That pretty much says it all. Similar in a lot of ways to shows like Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, and The Sopranos... with the major difference that the one is in the old west, the next is during the turn of the 20th century, and the last is in the modern world. This is the medieval version. It's a power struggle between different factions, with lots of intrigue and backstabbing, and an incredibly detailed and well-realized world.

Did you watch Rome? If I had to make a comparison, I suppose its reminiscent of that one. Except this takes place in a fictional land and there are no "main characters".

Actually, yeah, that's a really good comparison, probably as close as you can get. Although Game of Thrones seems to have even more factions going on than Rome did.
