Jean wasnt stached on IR, he had a broken collarbone as he said on 790 on thursday. said he is still rehabing
9. CAR: Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina* Steve Smith is defying the odds but playing at such a high level at his age, but he wore down as the season wore on and they need to get Cam Newton some other options to throw to. Jeffrey is 6'4 230lbs and has unbelievable hands, but he didn't produce as much as he should have last year. I attribute that to South Carolina's problems at the QB position and think he will form a scary combination with Cam Newton.
Not a huge fan of Jeffrey, and WR in the 1st round are normally overvalued. Targets for the Texans: 1st round: Dwayne Allen Tight End: Allow them to release Owen Daniels. He is by far the best TE in this class by leaps and bounds. Truly believe he could start as TE #1 by Week 1. (Everyone keeps talking about needing a better WR's which is very true. But the best offensives currently are the ones that create huge mismatches with elite TE's who really WR in TE bodies. San Fran, Green Bay, New England have all used this to consistently exploit mismatches in secondaries. Daniels is a good player, but we just don't have money to pay him, Foster, & Mario. So he let him go and get best TE available.) Mark Barron Strong Safety: Need more depth here. While Manning was out, defense had some issues. Also will have to choose to resign Quinn/Barber/Demps soon. So good, young replacement/depth who should eventually start. DAVID DECASTRO, OG: Solid pick and likely very good starter with mobility and athleticism. Line is great, but first year they were fairly healthy in awhile, plus a number of them will start to be getting paid soon. Melvin Ingram, DE/DT: Solid pick again. Building more depth on DL that was also remarkable healthy most of the year. Trade the pick. Would love if they could move down into the high 2nd round, but Always easier said than done. Others that could turn out good, but would rather trade back to the early 2nd round for: Stephon Gilmore CB, Janoris Jenkins, CB (These are the two I think might become the most complete with ball skills (key). Michael Floyd, WR (I know WR are overvalued in 1st round but if no one is left, he could be very good if he can get his mind right. I know the Texans are all about high character guys, but I would think AJ could straighten him out.) 2nd round Other than if the above fall down: Dontari Poe, DT/DE: Would be a bit of a project but same reason you look at Ingram, and just as disruptive. Kendall Wright, WR,: I am not a huge fan of his. But if the Texans draft a WR, they need one who CAN be a deep threat. Kendall Wright definitely can. Orson Charles, TE: Again undervalued here, since he is a both a good blocking and catching TE. Has the speed to be a threat down the field as a TE, creating mismatches. Kevin Zeitler, G, Wisconsin: Adds a bit of cheap depth to the line. Very good blocker with mobility and athleticism to pull and get to second level and work in our system. 3rd round Ryan Broyles, WR: Very undervalued if he falls into the 3rd round after a very recoverable injury. I truly believe he can be an elite possession receiver in the NFL by finding holes in zones and created space on routes. Derek Wolfe, DE/DT: I think he would fit in well with our scheme as a good DT/DE to help create depth on the line. Jared Crick, DE/DT: Not as sure on him as Broyles coming back after injury and less history of success. But would be good value as a 3rd pick if Texans think he can get healthy, creating DL depth Casey Hayward, CB: Smart CB with very good ball skills. Texans had problems creating turnovers, that is what Hayward is probably best at. Tank Carder, ILB: To me Tank is a poor-man's Cushing. Taking a flyer on him would be great depth. 3rd round would be at least a round early though.
Did you just decide to come up with your own draft page Kiper Jr.? -Daniels isn't going anywhere he just signed a 4 yr 22 Million in March so there goes that idea. -There's no way that Kendall Wright falls to the end of the second round. -If we do get the chance to jump on Orson or Brolyes in the 3rd I think that would be an absolute steal for our offense. But for the most past alot of this is pretty much a big dream.
I'm sorry, but is this not a thread to post thoughts on potential draft picks? I know it started with Jeffery, but what's the big deal? I know Daniels just signed that contract. Doesn't mean the Texans cannot still let him go. I know he is a big target for Schaub, but I just think Foster and Mario are too important for the team, and Daniels can be more easily replaced.
Why use a first rounder on Mark Barron...someone that would provide depth? Unless you have a team that goes 19-0 with an average winning margin of 20+ points, you spend a first round pick on a someone you plan on starting.
Dude said we had issues when Manning got hurt. Where? I ask you to find me the "issues" without Manning... Get rid of Daniels? For what? Dreessen is an FA, too. TE isn't broke, leave that alone.
Back to Alshon Jeffery.... Plenty of folks here like him a lot....but I'm not in love with him as a prospect. http://cleveland.sbnation.com/cleve...-nfl-draft-prospects-south-carolina-wr-alshon http://www.mockingthedraft.com/2011...effery-2012-nfl-draft-prospect-notes#comments http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draf...mel-kiper-first-mock-draft-year?eleven=twelve http://www.rotowire.com/Alshon-Jeffery-googid48877-spcfb.htm I'd far, far, far rather get my hands on Wright...but his stock seems to keep climbing as he wins over folks worried about his height.
the combine is just a month away. it's obviously going to play a big part in where Jeffery falls. when should we start taking bets on 40 times?
Alshon should be off the board by the time we pick. Kendall Wright is the pick, however, AJ2 would be freaking awesome. My sleeper in this draft is Tommy Streeter out of the U. Looking forward to the combine.
Kendall Wright has BIG TIME speed & talent. He can also return kicks. I loved watching him this year. I would be fine with either Wright or Jeffery but if you draft Jeffery you still need a KR/PR.
question.......ever since dre kirkpatrick got caught for weed, his stock has fallen, should the texans pick him if he lasts till the 26th pick? he probably wont though but just curious, one of the best cb in the draft
Per Rotowire: I really like the kid and if Wright isn't there at 26 wouldn't mind either taking him there, or possibly trading down for extra picks and nabbing him later in the first or early second round.
wasn't that Randy Moss' MO coming out? (along with some criminal history) WR is a diva position...doesn't really worry me all that much.
Let me rephrase Ziggy's question. What's MO on low-motor, low-athleticism, low-speed wide receivers with a history of weight problems coming out college? Do they tend to perform well?
moss wasn't a low motor guy really, just a bit of a headcase. Plus, he was incredible fast. I'm not worried about a guy being a diva...i'm worried about the guy having no separation speed and is prone to significant weight gain.
