Again each ticket has a 1/175million chance of winning. So theoretically in order for 10 winners to win then you 1.75billion dollar worth of tickets to be bought. This is assuming there are no duplicate tickets, but the point is you would need a huge pool for the math to work out.
We are doing an office pool. We will buy the tickets - scan them - and email them to everyone who joined. No cheating.
Some rich Polish guy did that for his country's lottery: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Lottery_(Ireland)#Lotto_6.2F36:_1988.E2.80.9392
They were doing a pool at my office. I said no. How is it in a department full of finance guys, only one knows that it's a waste of money, I don't know. They say I'll be the only one in the office on Monday. But, I know my dad plays when the pot is big. It'd be funny if he won, and I was the guy not showing up on Monday.

While it's nice to fantasize about winning 0.5 bil, it's just not common sense to waste any money in this. Let's put this in perspective, let's say you play 10 bucks every day continuously, that's $3,650 a year. According to the winning odds (1/175mil) you need to play for 48,000 years nonstop at 10 bucks/day to have a good chance of winning. Even if you roll the dice 6 times, you might not hit all 1-6, meaning it could take you hundreds of thousands of years to hit the winning combination lol. A little more perspective, humans have only discovered language about 75k years ago or so.
Love the token black "We made it and are all happy together with two daughters" family on the megamillions.com front page.
Really? None of us had any idea that the odds were against us in winning the lottery! Thank you so much to enlightening us poor saps to this information.
Seriously. It's like several of you debbie downers are thinking we're spending our hard-earned checks just on the lottery. Most of us just only put a couple of dollars in it at the most. It's the thrill of it and if you can't even part with a dollar just to have a little fun, I feel sorry for you.
Thinking about buying 20 bucks worth but don't know how if I should pick my numbers or do it randomly
Well, considering having 20 different tickets means that your chance has gone from 1 in 175 million to 1 in 8.75 million, and if $20 isn't much to you anyway, then why not lol.
What are you going to say to the guy who plays Sat and wins? Was it a waste of their money? If you have a few bucks to burn who cares if the odds are agianst you. Somebody at some point is going to win that thing...
Good luck guys. I have twice been a number away from winning the lotto. I think the 3rd time is the charm. I have a gut feeling someone in Texas will win it instead of new york. They always seem to win the big ones.
The first thing I would do is pay 1/3 of the winning to uncle sam and then I would call my ex gf that left me and break the news to her.
