So much grief for a guy who is shooting pretty similar to last year. Down 2.4% FG on 2.4 less FGA, down 3.6% 3FG on 0.1 less 3FGA. FTs are obviously down from 8.4 to 4.5 attempts per game. My question is why is this such a big deal. So he can't average 23 a game any more with these new rule changes. He can still be an extremely efficient 18 ppg scorer who at times can absolutely carry your offense. Painfully obvious we could use that every know and then. When healthy he is still a bargain for what he is paid and I don't think you move him until next season at the trade deadline.
1. Deron Williams isn't coming here. Dallas can sign him outright, and he wants to go to Dallas. The only suspense is in whether or not the Nets receive any compensation at all from Cuban (unlikely). 2. Martin has one year remaining on his deal, and it is highly unlikely Morey will reup him even if he stays for 2013. Like flipping Rafer to make way for Brooks and flipping Brooks to make way for Lowry, and the aborted Gasol trade, it's hard not to think Morey intends to ship out Martin to make way for Lee (at lower cost). And I think Morey's hand is being somewhat forced - he can not come to an agreement with Lee's agent now, because he'd be giving starter money to a backup. If he does that, Martin's value goes down even further because opposing GMs know that he has to dump him. 3. The Cavs make a world of sense as trade partners. There is absolutely no way they would offer their top pick for Martin, but they have the Lakers' pick and and Hornets (very high) 2nd rounder. That would be a pretty fair swap for both sides. The Pacers make similar sense, and their pick is even with the Lakers. The Warriors have the Spurs' pick, but I don't think they have the cap space.
I realize and have seen his play is obviously down this year, but the hate is so far overblown its crazy. With all the things(short season, new coach/system, trade then no trade, new rules, injury) that have come up this season involving Martin, I just think it is insane to want to just cast him aside like he is nothing and completely ignore what he has done as an offensive player during his career. You find a way to make him work. He is a valuable player than can be used to help you win games. It's not as easy as people make it out to be to just score at will like he is capable of doing.
Send em to Washington. Take a hit with either Blanche or Rashad but take their pick which could be top 3.
Pair him with someone valuable. Not Luis Scola. Luis Scola has proven he is allstar material. Luis actually has held this team afloat without Lowry and without Martin. I really think it is time to part with the old roster. That might mean Lowry while he is valuable and Kevin Martin while he holds some sort of value at the same time. Cash them both in and get that pretty decent star in return. Role with what we got currently on the roster playing games right now. Add a star to Dalembert, Scola, Parson, Lee, Dragic. add a draft pick in this upcoming draft and see how far away they are after that.
