It's enough where he needs to upkeep. The worst place for a politician to be in is when the base has doubts about his/her position. It's not always a bad thing. It's far worse if the president can do what he wants and still gets elected.
Does "KoolAid" = facts? The President of the United States was repeatedly asked about an issue and made a statement about it. Also, a department under his purview is investigating this incident. What's not to understand?
Except that the GOP, in large part, runs away from their more controversial base-pleasing positions when it comes to the general election. (As do the Dems on their more progressive policies) It's why Santorum is considered unelectable - he won't run away from those positions.
Except there's nothing to upkeep - not saying anything wasn't going to cost him any votes from the black portion of his base.
The media was pushing him to make a statement. Maybe silence on this won't cost him any votes, but what about the next issue his base feels strongly about, or the next, etc... That's the beauty of American politics. You can talk about things without saying anything. It's about subtle hints. Your base will have no doubt you're taking their position while moderates think you're on their side. Obama could've been more diplomatic with this issue, but I don't think anything was lost in him not doing so.
The proper answer is, "That's being handled on a local level." Yea, I'm sure they are. That county's DA is calling the shots. Prove me wrong.
Except it's NOT being handled on a local level. So really, you're asking the President to simply lie. http://abcnews.go.com/US/fbi-justice-department-investigate-trayvon-martin-killing/story?id=15955985 FBI, Justice Department to Investigate Killing of Trayvon Martin by Neighborhood Watchman
What if the DOJ finds it was handled at the local level? And why isn't the DOJ investigating the New Black Panthers for their threats against Zimmerman? Why hasn't Barry said anything about that?
Right from the article. He can't be charged federally for what he did. If he is convicted of anything, it will be in a District court room in Florida.
Then everyone moves on. There are questions as to whether that happened or not - that's the whole purpose of the investigation. Is there a reason for the Feds to get involved there? The guy was already arrested: http://rt.com/usa/news/arrest-panther-zimmerman-new-688/ It's almost like facts are irrelevant to you.
I agree. I have had this argument with Republicans. The common refrain is that black Americans are drones that vote Democrate and lack a firm understanding of the issues. That attitude is exactly why Republicans do poorly among black voters. People can tell sincerity and thus far the Republican party has made no sincere effort toward black voters.
Yes - do you know what word "also" means? It means "in addition". As in, they are investigating things and "in addition" are providing support to the state. That's certainly true for Zimmerman. But he isn't the only piece of the puzzle. The process and procedure are also being investigated. And that is exactly what Obama's statement was about: I think they are right to expect that all of us are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves, and we are going to get to the bottom of what happened. I think that every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this, and that everybody pulls together - federal, state and local - to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened. Do you disagree with any of the above?
Ehh not my favorite poster but one of the few that didn't want to hand Zimmerman by his neck before more facts came out. He may have a different motivation, but the point of patience was accurate.
It's the distribution that influences people's perceptions... http://www.censusscope.org/us/map_nhblack.html
1. So the DOJ is going to go behind the local authorities and double check the investigation of all 13,000 homicides committed annually in the US? 2. Good god, man - did you even read the article?
