Ever since the election of 1932, blacks have been unanimously pro-democrat. Republican policies of little to no relief in economic recessions being the main reason at the time.
Since the beginning . . . . well, since black folx got their other 2/5ths of humanity 'granted' to them by the government They have voted what they beleived to be in their best interest not unlike white people, hispanics or asians. If Republicans want the black vote They need to 1. Demonstrate they actually care about black folx 2. Do a better job of publicizing their good works and intentions on the behalf of black folx. Until they do that . . . politics is a popularity game The prettiest girl doesn't always win . . but sometimes the chick with the best publicist does Rocket River
Sure - 5% is significant, if those votes were in play. But of those votes, only a tiny fraction is in play. 90% of those will vote for Obama no matter what. 5% will vote GOP no matter what. So you're only talking about maybe 5% of the 5% that actually could swing one way or another. The black vote is the last group of people Obama needs to try to win if it costs him any other votes.
The initial boost was from people who would've voted for him anyway when it came down to election day. However, I know a LOT of people who actually changed their vote to Obama due to his pick of Palin. It was a bad pick and it would've have been a much closer election with a more moderate VP candidate.
I got a question. WHY IN THE HELL DOES OBAMA HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT EVENTS LIKE THIS ONE? Just like with the cops in Mass. that jacked up that college professor that wouldn't cooperate and the cops thought they had a burglar? Does he really not have anything better to do than comment on things that are handled at the local level?
Obama was trying to deflect attention away from two critical mistakes he made: 1. His embarrassing microphone left on when he tried to deal with the Russians "after his election" 2. The embarrassing episode that's going on in the Supreme Court that could negate one of his only "accomplishments" as President.
blown away by how right I've been I absolutely nailed the Trayvon Martin story. Re-read the first few pages -- they're almost prescient.
Probably because he's the President and it's a national story and he's constantly asked about it. And, of course, the Justice Department - a department that is a part of the Executive Branch that he is in charge of - is involved because the local level didn't handle it properly.
no, you were and are wrong. zimmerman hunted trayvon down and killed him. the rest is up for a jury to decide. quit speculating. and please don't try and use logic, it's embarrassing for you.
Well, It sort of. You have to always pander to your base, especially in politics because of public scrutiny. My boss (director of marketing) once told me, most of our advertisement budget is spent to keep the current customers, not to make new ones (about 70/30). Politicians are ALWAYS scared to lose their base with what they say or don't say. The speech on Trayvon makes sense because it panders to African Americans and many white agrees with it. The same goes for the Republicans. As for telling what their base want to hear, the current batch of GOP got it on level "ridiculous". Just politics, brah...
not at all emotional. wow, you have no clue. put me on ignore if you can't take constructive criticism.
Except his base is not black people - that's a tiny portion of his base. 5% of 5% is 0.25% of the vote that he could lose, if EVERY swing black voter switched away from him because he didn't talk about Trayvon Martin - an absurd premise in the first place. But even that would be highly unlikely to swing an election. And if he loses 1% of his white vote as a result of pandering to the black vote, then it's a net loss. You pander to independents, moderates, swing voters, etc. You don't pander to the heart of your base - that's why every candidate moves to the center during general election system and pisses off their base.
When almost every person who reads the board believes you're getting blown away, and only you, and maybe one or two others feel you're nailing it, it reflects poorly on your ability to see things rationally and makes you look delusional
That's not true. You ALWAYS pander to your base because they're the largest portion of your votes. It's a fine line to move more towards moderate to get independent votes, but never at the cost of losing your current ones. It's not about the 0.25%, it's about the continual reassurance to the 5% "given". Just the same way the GOP continually anti-gun control, anti-abortion, (stances that will alienate more moderates than not) etc... when they already have that section of the votes. The speech wasn't about switching new black voters. And I doubt he lost any white voters because of it.
