Thank you for the sanity and this story. I'm sure Zimmerman will booked on manslaughter charges and will have his day in court. Everything else is a needless circus.

paramedics should have checked him and gave a thorough examination

plus whenever a cop shoots someone he is given a drug/substance test right? zimmerman isn't a cop and they simply assumed he was not under the influence?

He definitely should have been arrested, no question.

 

There are still a lot of details, thanks to very poor police work that we don't know.

This fact that nobody is arguing, is that he shot and killed an unarmed man that he initiated contact with, this is enough to warrant being under arrest IMO.


Unless is turned out the kid had a weapon, even if he physically attacked him, this is still at the very least manslaughter.

He should at the very least have been interrogated.
The most important thing for all sides is to get this case right and resolved as quickly as possible.
Without interrogating Zimmerman however you lose a crucial part of the puzzle.

 

I don't know enough about this case to have any idea who was at wrong but it at least shows that in both cases the shooter was not arrested. Dooley was arrested later on after enough evidence was gathered and mayber Zimmerman will eventually be arrested if enough evidence is arrested.

 

One of the problems with this case is all the misinformation being spread around. According to this article Zimmerman was taken to the police station and interrogated.

Police brought Zimmerman into the station for questioning for a few hours on the night of the shooting, said Zimmerman's attorney, despite his request for medical attention first. Ultimately they had to accept Zimmerman's claim of self defense. He was never charged with a crime.

 

The story is tragic, but the real problem with all of this is the Sanford police.

 

This is the most enlightening thing I've read on this topic. At least Florida law enforcement are being semi-consistent regarding this law?

Man, either way, what an idiotic law! How could the legislators possibly not fully consider the implications that "Stand Your Ground" would have!? They might as well bring back good ol' pistol duels...

Aaaand now after reading on wiki and elsewhere, it seems that several states have similar laws. I guess I need to read up on this...

 

I can promise you the cop's supervisor was on the phone with the district attorney and was told what to do with Zimmerman.

But thanks to the media mis-reporting as they do on all stories, no one can even make a semi accurate suggestion as to what should happen.

The media is the most powerful and can be the most destructive thing in this country.
