Bellaire and Dairy Ashford if I recall correctly - that and Ron's Krispy Fried Chicken (closer to Boone) were some of my faves as a kid.

There was one on South Braeswood........just west of Hillcroft back in the day as well. They had a decent green sauce for their bean burritos.

I remember there was a Del Taco back in the 80s over at the corner of Jones Rd. and 290 (I believe it is a Whataburger now). Sound stupid, but I remember my parents picking up cheeseburgers from there on the way home from work once a week. They were pretty good.

I lived there for eight years and I agree with you on the Runzas. It's also corporate HQ for Godfather's, so there's like 20 of them in town and between them, Valentinos and Romeo's Mexican Food and Pizza that city's got some of the worst pies in the country.

It's not good food. It's better than Taco Bell for sure. In a pinch it might do, but it's no place to go out of the way to go to, or look forward to eating there. If you are near by and need something quick, then it will be fine.

Del Taco is like a slightly worst tasting version of Taco Cabana. Del Taco has an odd flavor -- it's like someone from California put the ingredients together for the menu... Tex Mex fail.

You seem to forget that California has more Mexicans than even Texas.

You seem to be ignorant that Tex Mex cuisine is different than Mexican cuisine.

Whataburger is better than In-N-Out, I'm a burnout, anything from Texas is better than anything from California, UH is a **** tier campus in the ghetto, and Obama is Black Hitler.

There, I just saved us both a lot of time.

Obama's half white, half black. Other than that, sounds about right

but just to educate you, Tex Mex has more chili and more cheese than typical mexican food. hth

    Chili is better with beans.

Del Tacos used to be in Houston back in the 80's, I think. They were less nasty than Taco Bell, but meh.

Food was not all that there. I guess if you like spicy food it's cool. Take some Prilosec before you go.

This is EXACTLY correct. When I was a kid I would go to that place all the time and get bean burritos with green sauce. After a while I discovered taquerias and it was all downhill from there, but the bean burritos with green sauce at Del Taco were the way to go.

I went to a Del Taco in Las Vegas a number of years ago hoping to recapture the thrill and I am sad to say that the thrill is gone.

Yes, Del Tacos were all around town, and then the were just gone. My elderly parents still sometimes refer to Taco Bell as Del Taco.
