    Police: Trayvon protesters ransack store
North Miami Beach Walgreens incident caught on video
Published On: Mar 27 2012 12:55:10 PM EDT Updated On: Mar 27 2012 02:18:57 PM EDT

    NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -

North Miami Beach police said surveillance video shows dozens of high school students demonstrating in the Trayvon Martin case Friday ransacking a Walgreens store.

The incident occurred during a walkout from North Miami Beach Senior High School in support of Martin, 17, who was fatally shot in Sanford. Protesters have been calling for the arrest of George Zimmerman, 28, who has not been charged because he claimed self-defense in the shooting, according to police.

Minutes after walking out of their school Friday, a large group of students walked through the streets of North Miami Beach. Along the way, they stopped at a Walgreens at 163rd Street and 15th Avenue at about 10:40 a.m.

Surveillance video shows dozens of teenagers running through the store. Police said about 80 to 100 students stormed in, ransacking the shelves, before the school's vice principal ordered everyone outside.

North Miami Beach police said students damaged items worth about $150. Local 10's John Turchin reported some merchandise also was stolen.

Some of the students dropped their IDs on the way out of the store, police said, so investigators have an idea of who was inside.

    The investigation continues.

So much stupidity one hardly knows where to begin. I'll focus on two things.

I never commented on the Trayvon photos to which BJ is referring because I did not know if they were legit. Nor did insinuate anything because Zimmerman is a Democrat. I noted it only because you know all hell would have broken loose had he been a Republican.

    By MATT GUTMAN (@mattgutmanABC)
    SANFORD, Fla. March 27, 2012
The lead homicide investigator in the shooting of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin recommended that neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman be charged with manslaughter the night of the shooting, multiple sources told ABC News.

But Sanford, Fla., Investigator Chris Serino was instructed to not press charges against Zimmerman because the state attorney's office headed by Norman Wolfinger determined there wasn't enough evidence to lead to a conviction, the sources told ABC News.

Police brought Zimmerman into the station for questioning for a few hours on the night of the shooting, said Zimmerman's attorney, despite his request for medical attention first. Ultimately they had to accept Zimmerman's claim of self defense. He was never charged with a crime.

Serino filed an affidavit on Feb. 26, the night that Martin was shot and killed by Zimmerman, that stated he was unconvinced Zimmerman's version of events.

Zimmerman, 28, claimed he shot Martin, 17, in self defense.

One complicating factor in the investigation was that the first detective to interview Zimmerman about the shooting was a narcotics officer rather than a homicide detective.

The State Attorney's office said only "no comment" when asked about the affidavit today.

The revelation is the latest salvo in a war of leaks meant to bolster each side amid rising tension over the shooting.

Martin's parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, will appear before a House panel today and rallies continue around the country demanding that Zimmermanbe arrested.

About 200 to 250 protesters gathered in front of the Justice Department today to demand the Justice Department to charge Zimmerman with a federal hate crime.

Martin's family attorney confirmed today that the teenager was suspended from his Miami school three times over the past year.

Family attorney Benjamin Crump told ABC News that Martin had been slapped with a 10 day school suspension after a bag with suspected mar1juana was found in his backpack.

Last year Martin was suspended for spraying graffiti on school grounds. The Miami Herald reported that the school guard who stopped him searched his backpack and found 12 items of women's jewelry and a flathead screw driver that the guard believed to be a "burglary implement." But Martin was never charged or specifically disciplined for the incident.

Crump alleged that the Sanford police had leaked damaging information about Martin into order to muddy the case, calling it a "conspiracy." Crump called the school disciplinary problems "irrelevant" to the case that "an unarmed 17 year kid was killed."

The case has triggered national interest with pro-Martin rallies in cities from coast to coast. Martin's mother has moved to trademark two popular rallying cries, "I am Trayvon" and "Justice for Trayvon." The family said it does not want want other people printing memorabilia.

"Sybrina Fulton has no desire to profit from her son's death, but wants to protect her son's name legacy," said family representative Ryan Julison.

Martin was shot as he made his way to his father's fiance's house while returning from a convenience store where he bought a pack of Skittles and iced tea. He was followed by Zimmerman who found him suspicious.

At some point, Zimmerman ignored the suggestion from a 911 dispatcher that he stop following Martin, left his truck and went to look for Martin.

At the same time, Martin was on the phone with his girlfriend and complained that someone was following him.

What happened then is not clear. The girlfriend has said that she heard Martin ask someone, "Why are you following me?" before the sounds of a scuffle and the phone was disconnected.

Zimmerman is described as 5-foot-9 and well over 200 pounds while Martin was 6-foot-3 and 150 pounds.

Leaks from the police report detail Zimmerman telling police he was heading back to his truck when Martin knocked him down with a punch to his nose, jumped on him, repeatedly banged his head on the ground, then tried to grab Zimmerman's gun.

In a struggle for Zimmerman's gun, the watchman shot the teenager, Zimmerman told police.

Are you sure they did, or did you want to wait for more facts?

Oh that's right. We've already seen you only wait for more facts in select cases.

    LOL!

Latest news from ABC is that the investigator wanted to charge Zimmerman with manslaughter but the state attorney said they didn't have enough evidence.

Also, there is a blurb about why they trademarked the Trayvon slogans. Of course, for some reason, we can't take her for her word and must say horrible things about her, right guys?

You can always tell a Republican by the outdated slang he uses.

I believe they call that "out of touch?"

I could be wrong though. But doubtful.

Fascinating article from the Times: http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/20...g-focuses-attention-on-stand-your-ground-law/

Seems that twice a week people are claiming justifiable homicide in Florida, tripling the rate from before the stand your ground went into effect.

Here's an article by Krugman about ALEC, the organization that has written and pushed for these laws in multiple states. They are backed by some big corporations.

If bipolar 1 were common the world would be a far different place. Making fun of it though places you in a very special realm of bastardry. My fault though. You guys hide behind screen names and keep all personal info private and that is fine, that is normal; I expose myself to scrutiny and this very kind of dickishness by my openness about my profession, my professional website, my personal struggles and other details of my personal life, etc. So I give you tons of ammo and you give none. My fault.

"If it's your decision to be open about yourself, be careful or else, be careful or else..." - E. Smith

And I never asked you not to be mean to me. I said you were a dick for wishing me dead or more badly injured after I had my leg broken in two places in a foreign country in a hit and run.

I wonder. Who is really showing his ass here?

    And then I remember I don't care.

CaseyH is clearly in violation of his idol bigtexxx's #1 rule," if you resort to personal attacks you've already lost."

Clearly in need of more bait-troll instruction.

And since by bigtexx's unbreakable "logic", CaseyH already lost I guess it doesn't matter if I add that he has never been anything but a two-tone ****stain on the boxers of this forum.

Making fun of a person with a life-long disorder that comes along with a 1 in 7 chance of suicide sure is hilarious.

Sounds like something Fatty would say after his 9th glass of Merlot.

Thanks for posting this is interesting.
That changes things if the lead investigator had thought there was more to this case then just self-defense but was told by the state attorney's office not to move ahead. I am going to retract some of my suspicions of the Sanford PD.

I am curious what the differences might've came about from having a narcotics detective rather than a homicide detective on scene. Could have that factored in the State Attorney's decision?

This part is new to me but I still don't see how this fits in with the rest of the evidence. If Zimmerman shot Martin while wrestling for the gun that would mean Martin was pretty much right up against Zimmerman when he was shot. That still seems like there would be a lot of Martin's blood on Zimmerman which wasn't noted in the police report.

Another factor that maybe one of the gun experts here can respond to is my understanding of shooting a firearm at very close range is that the discharge from the muzzle and chamber might blow back and leave some burning on the person shooting. Is that the case and if so wouldn't burns on Zimmerman also be visible?

Finally a struggle for the gun make this self-defense as the Dooley James case shows where the shooter says he shot in self-defense when the victim went for the gun.

On the ABC website where the article is, there are various videos playing and while I was copy/pasting, they did say that the police investigation states that Martin was shot at very close range.

It only makes me widen my suspicion to include the state attorney's office.

If there was physical evidence of a close range shot like blood or burn marks on Zimmerman, what are the chances that SPD bothered to collect it? Hopefully, they treat the scene the same way whether they plan to level charges or not, but I can't say I'm confident.

Considering my paternal grandfather committed suicide when my father was a child, that my maternal grandmother was treated many times for mental illness, my best friend hanged himself at age 13 as did another close friend at 14 and at least 5 other close friends offed themselves in adulthood, and given the fact that I have ranged from 'ideation' to 'suicidality' since I was about 8, my odds are a little better than the norm, which I'd thought was 1 in 5 but no matter when I am just being a baby, boo-hoo, poor me.
