I've decided to try them out since I haven't really been getting any call backs on resumes and emails I've been sending out the past 2 months except for like 3 companies. Hopefully I can get something that will lead to a full time opportunity by the time I complete my bachelors this summer.

Anyone ever use them to get job placement? Or any other staffing agency? Any good or bad experiences?

Are you an accounting or finance major?

I'm currently in the same situation... Graduating with BA in Finance in May.

A&M has a networking tool with HireAggies, but I am not having any luck.

Will be looking for responses to your questions as well.

I think it's getting to the point where new grads need to look at entry-level clerk jobs that are entirely out of state. You apply for all the same jobs in your city, you're competing against the same people.

Accountemps/Robert Half was the first place I went when I was graduating with my BBA in Accounting this past December. They gave me some good advice and got me an interview with a company extremely quickly.

Unfortunately, I was completely unqualified for the position I interviewed for. After I underwhelmed in that interview, I had a hard time getting a hold of the recruiter I was working with. He only recently got back in touch with me, but this was after I had found a job through another agency. Even though I had found a job that I was suited for and liked, the recruiter tried to pressure me into interviewing for a position with a company I didn't want to interview with.

It seems to me like the recruiters at Robert Half and Accountemps are more interested in getting their money for referrals than they are with actually helping you find a job. But that's just my experience. I would still give them a shot though. Finding a job right out of college can be tough for someone with little or no related experience.

Well I have a pretty good lead on a bookkeeping/payroll position but it's alot less than a staff accounting job. I may just have to take that while I finish my CPA requirements.

I got my resume in with Robert Half, but did not have much luck with them. My brother-in-law got hired on with El Paso through them though.

Out of college I worked with my dad's CPA Firm, but decided to go out on my own a year and half later. I got a couple of interviews but no job, then Robert Half gave me a call. I went in and met with the guy, filled out my paperwork.

Very next day, I get a call from Accountemps that a local CPA firm wants to interview me. I got the job and am still here 3.5 years later.

Now, it may not work out as well for you since I had experience and was willing to accept a measly $14/hr. I do recommend waiting for a staff accounting position, rather than bookkeeping/payroll, because you can get stuck there.

    Did you do an internship?

Unfortunately no. Most of my college career I was working full time at a bank in order to pay off a car note and because they provided full tuition reimbursement. It wasn't until last fall that I finally stopped working to fully concentrate on school.

one of the best things I have ever done for my work experience was to hook up with a staffing agency....twice. Lots of companies hire permantently via an agency. And as much as companies hire through the agency scoping future employees, and if your good, you also have an options whether to work for a particular company or not.

they're a good avenue to follow.

You know anything about XBRL? That is a new skill set that is HIGH in demand. A lot of companies are looking for people who are knowledgeable in that field as it is now a SEC requirement for any publicly traded company. If you want to learn it you can always post your resume on Monster and you have a good chance that Thomson Reuters recruiter will call you to see if you are interested. It'll be a contract type job, but you may get hired on. If not, the knowledge you gain will be priceless as the number of people qualified is very limited.

I do warn you expect long hours.

I don't have a degree and only took two accounting courses while at UH, but I'm making good money cause I have 3 years of experience in the field and have worked with nearly 100 different companies. I also have great references to put on my resume that I have helped in the past. The pay I get for each engagement ranges from 50-75 a hour and that's not bad at all.

Is there certification required for XBRL? Or can someone just learn it through a couple of youtube instructional videos and put it on their resume?

I was in a similar boat to you about 2 years ago but finally got on to a private firm. The good news is, once you have experience, recruiters come out of the woodwork trying to steal you.

That first one is always the trickiest!

There is no certification required for XBRL at the moment. Really its been learned through doing the actual reports. Go to http://xbrl.us if you want to read up on it and learn what exactly it is.

It takes time to actually learn this type of work. PWC is reviewing the XBRL report and most of the time in those meetings I'm explaining why their comments are incorrect so even auditors are having issues with this report.

This is very true once I learned the XBRL skill set job offers come left and right.

Have you considered staying a full-time student for a MAcc or MBA? You could internship then, and then I think you'd find a job easier.

Well I'd need a job regardless to pay for books, phone bill, gas, and insurance. If anything I'm actually leaning towards that payroll position so I'll pursue a masters at night.
