(Links are to sample songs.) I think the Lord of the Rings movies probably take the cake for me. I'm a huge LotR fanboy anyway, but I honestly think the music may be the best thing about those movies. Howard Shore did a fantastic job. Singin' in the Rain leaps to mind, as well. Oh, and pretty much anything Thomas Newman has touched, including American Beauty and Angels in America. For American animation, I love the soundtrack from The Last Unicorn, written by Jimmy Webb and performed by America. And hell, pretty much all of the animated Disney movies made in the 90s (along with The Little Mermaid, which was actually late '89). For anime, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Paprika, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Cowboy Bebop, Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal and Rurouni Kenshin: Reflection. For videogames, Final Fantasy VII, Chrono Cross, Streets of Rage 2, Mega Man 2, and the recently released Journey.
Predator - simply awesome, musical score made the film. Beverly Hills Cop - just because Axel's theme music is so recognizable. Neutron Dance by the Pointer Sisters is $$$$ Conan the Destroyer >> Conan the Barbarian soundtrack-wise. My favorite growing up: The Show: Soundtrack from Taylor Steele's Movie link
Adventureland- all 80s music grease- don't act like you don't like it. The crow- Dark and full of emotion. Rocky iv- some say cheesy, I say genius. Road to perdition- this is mostly the score.
