FU UNLV!!! If you guys didn't suck so bad in football, you might've gotten a shot at the Big East...and I would love (...and bet the traveling alums would also) getting a UH visit every other year here. F!!! U!!! UNLV!!! </self-centered rant> And...let's just say for the sake of offseason discussion, if Piland wins the starting QB job...how much of a drop off will there be? I know there will be some level of drop, but I was hoping the other positions would be able to step up and aim for a similar season to this year.
Oh yeah.... Kohlhaussen (sp?) was way behind and Crawford Jones was just awful lol. Piland is a legit QB though that's for sure. He throws a great deep ball, and good anticipation on the short routes. He also bulked up from last year too.
boomboom.... drop off from what exactly? From Keenum or from the other QB's. There will be a big drop off from the other QB's. It will be fun seeing how Piland advances like Keenum did. Piland has better QB skills than Keenum, but Keenum was marvelous at reading the defense and making the right throw, not every QB has that skill. If Piland picked up the mental stuff from Keenum last year, Piland will certainly be just fine.
Good. But the important question is... did he cut his hair? He looked like Justin Bieber last time I saw him.
For not understand my question, you answered it perfectly. I was anticipating somewhat of an overall offensive drop off just due to how prolific Keenum's numbers were...and not knowing or expecting Piland to come close to achieving those. Of course, numbers aren't everything...just as long as he (or any other UH QB) can win.
I'm not expecting 5000 yards. But what I am expecting is low turnovers, high passer efficiency, and for Charles Sims and that senior laden OL to totally wreck shop. In 2013, I'll look for Levine to open things up a little more.
Oh and also.... talking to the big whigs while I was there, rumor has it that if UH decides to move the football stadium to right off of I45, the owner of the Landry's restaurants (a UH alum) will pay the remaining $$$ needed to build it there. So keep an eye out on that in the near future.
Sam Khan Jr. @ skhanjr UH board of regents approves current Robertson Stadium site for new stadium. Spent last month looking at I 45site. Mark Berman @ MarkBermanFox26 Univ Houston Board of Regents approves current site of Robertson Stadium for new stadium instead of I-45 option Not happy about this at all. I hated the Robertson site. Years from now we will look back and regret this short-sighted, cost driven decision. When you're building forever, you don't skimp.
big mistake my guess is the UH analysis didn't consider the marketing value of having the stadium near I-45. Would be very powerful
The parking garage probably didn't have a lot to do with it. It was the general services building that was the deal killer. The destruction and reconstruction of that building would add on an extra $45MM to the cost of the stadium. That's money that we just didn't have. I think they did what we necessary to get the stadium built on time, but I think the decision was made without respect to what would be most prudent 20+ years from now, but instead what makes sense in the short-term timeframe. When we're ready to build a 60K+ seat stadium 50 years from now, maybe we'll revisit the location issue again. Absolutely agree. $45MM for a "forever" billboard next to I-45 would be well worth it. We can only hope that they will 1) use the money they saved wisely 2) make the new stadium at least somewhat visible from the freeway and 3) consider the I-45 location again when the time for another new stadium arises. I have the sneaking suspicion that this stadium is not being built with the intention of it standing forever, a la most other college programs.
This. This was exactly what all the boosters/long time season ticket holders were saying on Saturday that would be the downfall of moving the stadium to I45.
More info coming out: http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/spo...egents-approves-site-for-new-football-stadium Apparently it would've pushed back construction a whole year, that, coupled with the additional cost, was certainly a deal killer. The stadium can be expanded up to 60K, in phases, so it will undoubtedly be there a long, long time. My dream of having a stadium by a major thoroughfare dies with a whimper.
I thought a stadium off of I-45 would have been a nightmare for parking and whatnot. And the location would hardly be a billboard off of the highway with the way the freeway is constructed. I'd much rather have the stadium closer to the middle of campus.
I think the biggest problem (unrelated to timing or money) was the lack of room for growth. If the stadium size was capped by the location, that would present a major issue. It would be no more a traffic nightmare than any other stadium. Besides, Cullen blvd is eventually going to be closed off eventually, so this would only coincide with that. Hopefully this menas the Scott lightrail project will be that much more effective and worthwhile, and will also foster growth along Scott Street. But I think you're very wrong about not being able to see the stadium from the freeway, it would be quite visible. Hell, you can already see the general services building, and it was going to be twice as close to the freeway and twice as big. It is my hope that whatever they build at the current location will be easily visible from the freeway. And yes, the field should be grass.
