Most Christian rituals come from Pagan holidays and celebrations as well. That is true because when the religion was being established it was often illegal to practice Christianity. So the date of Christmas and several traditions fall at the time of pagan rituals so that it would be able to pass. When you start talking about historical inaccuracies then a problem arises because depending on which parts of the bible you are talking about there is little or conflicting historical evidence for it. To say that Jesus is the polar opposite in Quran as the bible is inaccurate. Moses, Noah, Abraham, Jesus, David, etc. are all in the Quran and revered in it. The religions are not the same. They are different. I'm not suggesting that because you believe in the bible, you have to believe in the Quran. You don't. But to pretend like they aren't talking about the same people and worshiping God the father isn't accurate. They have some different ideas about that God, but that doesn't mean that they aren't also an Abrahamic religion.
The Jesus of the Quran was never crucified, or resurrected. The Bukhari Hadith says of Abraham..He settled in Beersheba in the land of Palestine, which is the desert of Syria. There was no Palestine during Abraham's life. The word was first composed by the Romans 2,100 years after Abraham died. The patriarch actually returned to Canaan, named after his great, great uncle. From a website: Prophet of Doom Muhammad believes that Allah chose Islam for Abraham and his sons, especially Jacob, from whom all Jews are descended. Qur'an 2:132 "And this was the legacy that Abraham left to his sons by Yah'qub (Jacob); 'Oh my sons! Allah has chosen the Faith for you - the true religion; then die not except in the faith of Islam as Muslims. He said to his sons: 'What will you worship after me.' They said: 'We shall worship your Ilah (God), the Ilah (God) of your fathers, of Abraham, Ishmael and Isaac, the one Ilah (God): To Him we submit in Islam.'" Why do you suppose Yahweh trifled with Judaism and Christianity if Abe were a Muslim? And could Abraham have referred to God as Allah if the name wouldn't be invented for more than twenty centuries? Even then, it was the proper name of a pagan rock idol in Arabia, not Israel. How do you suppose Yahweh's name could have been repeated 6,868 times in the Bible if his name were really Allah? And there is no way to weasel out of this predicament. Muslims scream that "Allah" is simply the Arabic word for "God," yet that assertion is in direct conflict with the Qur'an. In this verse the Arabic word for "God" (capital "G"), "Ilah," was used three times. From the Tabari "As time drew near, the astrologers came to Nimrod, saying, 'We have learned from our lore that a boy will be born in this city of yours who will be called Abraham. He will abandon your religion and break your idols in such and such a month and year." Muslims are attempting to bestow on Abraham, whom they view as the father of Islam, the same kind of birth announcement enjoyed by Yahshua, the founder of Christianity, but they didn't have a clue when either man actually lived. Both secular and scriptural histories tell us that Nimrod died centuries before Abraham was born. The clay tablets that were unearthed near ancient Babylon starting in the late 19th century suggest Nimrod died violently at the age of forty around 2800 B.C., two generations after the great flood. Apart from the Bible, Abraham is not as well known. Yet, archeologists have been able to confirm the Biblical accounting of when he lived by unearthing the places the Scriptures say he visited or that coexisted during his time. They have found dozens of corroborating artifacts that confirm Abraham lived between 2100 B.C. and 1950 B.C. These men were not contemporaries. I could go on but I have the flu. Mohammad plagiarised, poorly, stories from the Bible, that he heard ( and sometimes purchased from the Yathrib Jews). The Quran might make mention of Bible characters, but that is where the similarity ends. Quran also talks of Jesus being born under a palm tree in a dry river bed...? Smh.
Let's stop right there. Hadith aren't the Quran. They may be important for understanding the Quran, but they aren't the quran. As for the Allah nonsense, you should realize that A christian who lives in the holy land and speaks Arabic would read the bible, and every mention of God would read Allah. Jesus would say that he is the son of Allah in the bible! Abraham was not a Muslim, nor do Muslims make the claim. Abraham was not a Christian. Christ wasn't even a Christian. That has nothing to do with anything. Like I said the stories are different. They aren't the same religion. I'm not making the claim. Even in the bible there are different stories of Jesus. One Gospel has Jesus and the cleansing of the temple near the beginning of his adult journey, the others have that event happening near the end shortly before his crucifixion. But all of the Gospels in the bible are talking about the same Jesus yet they have differing accounts of what happened and when it happened. Someone can believe that Charles is the Queen of England's oldest son. Someone else can claim that Charles isn't the Queen's son. That doesn't mean that they don't both believe the Queen of England is the same person.
I haven't read all your posting, but are you just against same sex marriage, or homosexuality in general? If you are against it in general, and the Bible isn't what shapes your views, what is it that makes you dislike something a personal is unable to control?
As someone who speaks the semetic Aramaic, Assyrian and Arabic languages the word Allah does not mean God, it is a name...like Fred. The word Ilah in Arabic means God. Before Mohummad named his god Allah, it's name was Al-Rahman. Anyhow, this is the wrong forum / thread. Make a thread 'is Islam an Abrahamic religion? or is it a poorly plagiarised profiteering scam disguised as a religion, written by a pedophile pirate?' and we can discuss further. God bless you.
I applaud your languages. But never-the-less read a bible in Arabic. I've seen them. God is printed as Allah.
Yes, this is true, but evidence will reveal the truth and expose the lies. And this is from Quran... Qur'an 2:132 "And this was the legacy that Abraham left to his sons by Yah'qub (Jacob); 'Oh my sons! Allah has chosen the Faith for you - the true religion; then die not except in the faith of Islam as Muslims. He said to his sons: 'What will you worship after me.' The word "Allah" is an Arabic word that means "The God". It originally consisted of two words: "Al Ilah". The word "Al" in Arabic means "the". The word "Ilah" means God.
As countries develop more and become fully stable growth rate will dip into the negatives. Its what is happening around Europe.
Moderate conservative for gay marriage here. Actually, I guess I would classify myself more as "ambivalent towards" than "for" so to speak. I'm not gay and I'm already married, so why should I care if 2 gay people get married? I've said it here many times, but I think straight people (with kids) divorcing is much worse for society than gay people getting married. If gay marriage was legal in all 50 states, I wonder how the gay divorce rate would compare to the straight divorce rate.
I notice people tend to say this when their own personal morality / code of ethics are close to those of the majority. How do you define a threat to the safety or well being of fellow citizens or society in general? I think there is universal agreement that murder is a threat to society but how do you determine that gay marriage is a threat to society?
Not sure if serious.. But I know a lot of gay people and have no problems with gays. I am not gay nor do I want to be gay.
Sooo much fail in this thread. 1) I dont give a damn what your preachers say, being gay is NOT a choice. If the ability to marry is legalized, you are not going to see all sorts of folks CHOOSING to be gay. It just aint happening. I've never felt the urge to kiss a man or have sex with one, and I dont give a damn how accepted it becomes, I WILL NOT all the sudden choose to do so. 2) Ive done extensive reading on religions while I was undergoing a crisis of faith in my younger days, and by all reputable accounts that I read, Islam is considered an Abrahamic religion, just like Judiaism and CHristianity. 3) David, the passages you quoted never mentioned shellfish, so what relevance do they have re: restrictions on shellfish eating? Care to explain? Bats, re: post on page 6, would rep you if I could, but since I cant....Nicely Done. If Jesus were here right now, I feel he would be even more pissed at what is done in his name than he was when he railed against the Pharisees in the early church.
