He is making ~$9M right now and will be a FA at the end of the year.

He says he wants to play 20 years in the league meaning 4 more years after this. Not sure if he can do it but he is in outstanding shape and I won't be at all surprised if he does.

He clearly wants to stay in Houston.

What is his market value? How much would it cost us to re-sign him?

I wouldn't want to pay him a lot more than the veteran's minimum. I haven't been too impressed in the games I have seen him play in a Rockets uniform. His defense on Dirk was good, but he sometimes seems to take plays off and seems slow to get back on defense.

Pretty much sums up my assessment. I'd give him maybe a couple million a year but not more than that. He does seem slow at times and is very limited on the offensive end at this stage of his career. He does grab boards and plays decent defense so he can still be useful but not for more than a couple million.

Morey will lowball him and he will sign with Miami Heat.

If Morey is able to upgrade the team with maybe a Eric Gordon and Roy Hibbert, Camby might be willing to take the minimum knowing that team could be strong. If we can't make a splash in FA, then Camby might holdout for more money knowing he would mean more to a starless team!

He is averaging 6 points 9 boards in just over 20 minutes a game as a rocket . More importantly he is averaging almost 4 offensive glasses which means 4 second chance points(depends if we score) or 4 extra posessions. Thats fantastic production for a backup center per minute.Right now he might be the best defensive/rebounding backup C in the league. Udoh of the Bucks is pretty good to.

What i like is he can defend the bigs but he can also defend the pick and roll against the more mobile PF/C's of the league like Dirk.

Sounds like Camby might be willing to take less to finish out his career at "home." Since we are gonna have cap room, I think the "room exception" is gonna be reserved for Camby. Thus, i think his contract will be 2.5M per year for 2 years.

I think he will take something in the range of our $2.5M MLE which is only for teams who enter the offseason under the salary cap. That way cap space won't effect our ability to sign him/vice versa.

You guys are seriously undervaluing what a center of Camby's skills can make in this league. I know he is old but he ain't backing up Yao in a contender team.We have to pay him for him to stay, if he is going to get paid the minimum he might as well go with the Heat.

Wouldn't that be potentially 8-12 second chance points?

The Rockets have full Bird rights on Camby, so they don't need to use any cap exceptions on him. They'd need to work out a new deal quickly come July, though, since his cap hold will be huge.
